Nice to see our Rook getting some national pub!

Texans rookie Brian Cushing was named AFC defensive player of the week Wednesday for his performance in last week's victory over Cincinnati.
Cushing had nine tackles, an interception and forced two fumbles in the Texans' 28-17 victory that evened their record at 3-3.
Two of the turnovers came in the fourth quarter, including an interception at the Texans' 11-yard line that stalled the Bengals' comeback.
Cushing is the first Texans defensive player to win the award since Mario Williams in 2007.
And very well deserved, IMO. Rick Smith should be feeling pretty smug about this first round selection. Now if we can just draft USC's Taylor Mays.........
Wow, that's impressive.... Way to go Cush!
Taylor Mays? He's #1 on some draft boards... I noticed he's like 6'3"/230..... that's a safety the size of AJ....

I was all for Mays last year, but I have seen him play a few times this year and I have not been that impressed. He was beat for TDs in both games I saw him (OSU, ND), and he has not been the huge hitter in those games that I would expect for his size.
Eric Berry seems to have far better pass coverage and playmaking skills.

Smith has got to be feeling smug about his first round picks, all 3 of them. Okoye seems to be playing better and maybe there's hope that he may ultimately be worthy of being picked so high while Duane Brown is clearly having that big jump from his rookie to sophomore year.
And Cushing has produced from day 1 and this award is further validation of his value to the team.

Totaly agree. Berry is Ed Reeves like. I would like to compare Mays to Lynch but he just doesnt seem to have the instinct to come up and make the big hit. He is one hell of an incredible athalete though. I have seen more than one scout suggest he may have to play OLB in the pros. Im starting to think hes going to end up being another Manny Lawson or Boss Bailey.

I know for sures that we are getting Eric Berry.
Oh yeah........some say this kid is so good he could be the #1 pick in the draft. How we gonna get the #1 pick? Inquiring minds want to know?

He doesn't play quarterback. However, he could very well be a top 10 pick and hopefully, we'll have a hard time trading up that high ;)

Cushing certainly deserves his award, sets the tone for our defense , plus two fumbles and one interception in one game, and leading rookie tackler. fantastic.

Safeties almost never go number 1
I know, but they say this kid could be an Ed Reeves clone. Great praise for sure.
