I'm sure that I've posted what I'm looking for when going into the Combine in terms of measurables. I just can't find it right now. Anyway, I wanted to come back to that idea now that the Pro Days are pretty much over. I've discussed how I create an "Athlete" index based upon "Explosion" and "Quickness" to determine a player's athleticism. Anyway, it is no surprise that many of my top rated prospects did pretty well when comparing my prototypes. The one outlier is Chip Vaughn, who currently is not ranked as a 1st round draft pick. I wonder what will happen on draft day, because I'm seeing him as low as the 4th round. Anyway, these are the results.

May I tell you that this is a lot easier if you have Excel?

Anyway, my prototypes are based upon previous players' averages that have been productive in the NFL. These milestones, so to speak, were numbers that I was looking for BEFORE the Combine and Pro Days. The above players just happen to be capable of meeting or exceeding those goals. I will admit that both Orakpo and Brown are shorter than what I want, but overall, they fit my mold. I will also concede that there are more things to consider when evaluating a prospect. There are off field concerns, mental makeup, passion for the game, and instincts. However, I just thought that I'd share a little analysis that goes into making my draft board.
