Brian Orakpo: Wow, that is different!

I would take "Orapko", to quote Charlie Casserly, if he were there, especially considering a trade down w/ Philly seems to be less likely.

Beanie Wells to the Saints??? How does he expect them to pay for him, Bush and Duece?

Yeah, I would be surprised to see that and they seem to like Pierre Thomas. They need defense as badly as or perhaps worse than we do.

Because of the increase in 3-4 teams resulting in even more opportunities for Orapko, he's been moving up Draft boards not down them.
I dunno is Gosselin on a mission to make make a travesty out of his Draft-mock reputation ?

Or like the guys on the NFLn have said, the scouts are thinking of Orapko as a 4-3 DE only. That would drop him.

I've probably seen more people say Orakpo could play either way than any player in this Draft, which puts him play for both 4-3 & 3-4 teams.
And then he's got Curry going #1, a WIL going #1. AJ Hawk at #5 in '06 has been the only 4-3 LB taken that high in the last 6 to 7 years and he's been a disappointment.
Honestly I expect Orakpo to be taken ahead of Curry. *

* Nevermind - for whatever reason I'm seeing Orakpo drop (dramatically in some cases) lately on most mocks ?

I think Curry will go higher than Orakpo but I'd be a little surprised to see Orakpo fall to #15.

Does Everette Brown get hit by a truck or something.... Is that why he's not in the first round? Because as far as I can tell there is a whole lot of lesser talented players getting drafted above him in this mock.

FYI, Deuce is a free agent now, but I agree with your point. I think theyre going to try to work with Thomas and don't think theyre ready yet to accept that Bush as a bust.

I do think its interesting that they have the Lions taking Aaron Curry with the #1 pick. I think this might be the guy Schwartz would pick if it were his decision alone... I don't think this is very likely either, though, since the Lions have rarely been known to make wise draft decisions.

I don't see Curry going #1 either. You can say that he's the best overall player in the draft until you're blue in the face, but there's no value there. Maybe I'm wrong here but I have a hard time believing that some team that runs a 43 is going to pay any linebacker #1 overall kind of money.

http://www.thehuddlereport.com/Free/press/palmbeachpost.2009.htm

"None of the mocks are credible, including mine," Gosselin says. "It's all guesswork. We're not drafting. You don't see the general manager of the Giants or the general manager of the Bears doing a mock draft. Everybody else that's doing a mock is guessing. So I'm just trying to provide the readers a service: 'Here are a couple of options for your team. Enjoy the draft.''"

Gosselin does three mock drafts: a preliminary list of how players stack up (he had the Dolphins taking Ohio State linebacker James Laurinaitis); a second mock, which comes out today, placing greater weight on teams' needs; and a final list factoring in late developments. He works 10 to 12 hours a day for two months.

"I probably enjoy working the draft more than I do at this point the games," Gosselin says, "because it's a new puzzle every year."

He never looks at other mocks because "I don't want anything to taint what my ears are hearing." Nor does he study film.

"People have said, 'Gosselin, these aren't his rankings,'''' he says. "Well, that's right. I'm a writer, I'm not a talent evaluator. I'm not getting hired or fired or paid to make draft picks - but I talk to the people that are getting hired, fired or paid to make draft picks. Those are the people I trust."

I am finding this to be a promising and threatening trend. I love Brown but have noticed him slipping. Perhaps its smoke or perhaps its "insider" information. Draftscout has had him slide from #9 on March 24th to now ranked 14th overall on their big board. There has been chatter about his height being a little over 6' 1" instead of 6' 4" and his speed being less than anticipated. His 7.58 3-Cone drill was dissapointing, but I'm not looking to make him an OLB. There is a bias against Florida State pass-rushers, but I know what I saw when he played. Gil Brandt put him in his 2nd tier of players (10-20) so maybe, just maybe we will have a shot at him, which I didn't think was probable before.

Gosselin's mocks are just smoke screens up until his last one comes out either late friday or early saturday.

Here it is, Gosselin's top 100, one of the most accurate year to year.

A few interesting ones:

5. Maclin
14. Orakpo
23. Matthews
32. Wood
37. Unger
53. Everette Brown
62. Michael Johnson

Boy, we might get that dynamic pass rusher we need at good value if the Orakpo, Brown, and Johnson rankings are close to accurate.

Rich Ohrnberger and Kraig Urbik above Duke Robinson caught my eye. Ohrnberger?? Really?

Or, maybe they are less Dynamic than was previously thought. Johnson, we know the beef, the other two are falling out of the OLB slot in a 3/4 which makes tham somewhat less attractive for this draft. They may be only situational pass rushers which are not as much in demand.

Just a thought, but maybe its a good thing. We can trade down and still get the players we wanted. I am getting more anxious for us to trade down and pick up extra picks to flesh out backups. I am extremely concerned about OT, we only have Rashad Butler backing up now that Salaam is gone. I would love to draft Sebastian Vollmer with one of our 4's. He has risen now to the highest rated non-combine player in the draft expected to go in the 4th.

I dunno, anybody care to compare/rank Everett Brown & Michael Johnson, one or both of whom it now looks as if could be available to us with our second rounder, vs Quentin Groves, the X-Auburn sack-specilaist who the Jags got in lasts years second round. As I recall they also took another DE, Derrick Harvey, in the top 10 of last years Draft ?

Everette Brown seems to be falling...

I don't have a link but I just heard that in Kiper's final mock he has Everette Brown going to Arizona @ 31st overall.

Everette Brown seems to be falling...

I am not understanding this at all. The games have been played, the interviews conducted, the work-outs ran, and measurements taken. There has been no news on medical problems and his name was not associated with any rumors.

Now, after being considered a top 5 pick for the last 5 months, he's now a 2nd round pick? I can't help but wonder if there is "insider" information that sources know but aren't talking about - but merely stating that he will not be a top pick.

Quentin Groves fell to the 2nd round last year after being diagnosed with W-P-W and requiring an ablation. It's not that big of a deal, but because it was a heart condition, it scared off enough GMs.

I have compared Brown to Suggs and Freeney, but perhaps LaMarr Woodley would be a better example. A productive college player who should be drafted in the 1st round, but may slip to the 2nd round because of the notion that he's undersized. I wonder if the Falcons would like a do-over or if they would still take Jamaal Anderson with the #8 pick, while Woodley was on the board.
