Okay, now that picks have been traded in the Cutler deal, I wanted to test out my draftboard. Walterfootball.com has a 5 rounder that makes me quite a bit nervous. Let me just say, that I'm all for adding players to the defense to make it better, but my board came out like this....
15. WR Jeremy Maclin Missouri 6' 0" 198 4.45
46. OC Max Unger Oregon 6' 5" 309 5.28
77. RB Andre Brown NC State 6' 0 1/8" 224 4.47
112. SS Chip Vaughn Wake Forest 6' 1 3/8" 221 4.45
122. TE Shawn Nelson Southern Miss 6' 5" 240 4.52
152. WR Mike Thomas Arizona 5' 8" 195 4.35
Now, I could have came off my board and drafted DE Kyle Moore at #152 and drafted CB Asher Allen at #122. They had us drafting Andre Brown at #112, so I felt a little silly taking him at #77. However, I was O.K. with getting Vaughn and Brown.

Heard a little bit of Shawn Nelson this afternoon on the radio and he was asked about participating in the Senior Bowl, the Combine and the Pro Day and he said "Well, I hadn't done any of that before..."
Yeah, right. That's why you only are in those three events when you're going out for the draft. And that only happens once.
Reminded me of the lament of one old women from years ago, "People are dying these days that have never died before." Ya think?

I dunno Bob, is this your way of telling us this Shawn guy probably didn't major in Kinetic Molecular Theory ?
BTW I dunno how many mocks I've seen that has us drafting Andre Brown ? Guess it means one of 2 things, we'll either draft Andre Brown or we won't ?

I much as I want to add to the the defense, just like you, I am seeing a board that is falling to offense when we are picking in most rounds. So if we go with an all offense draft, it would no shock me. But many of those guys will not have room on the game day roster.

In the updated Walters mock, they have B.J.Raji falling to us at 15, and Jarius Byrd in the second...

Also of note, he does not list Connor Barwin in the 1st or 2nd round......
Jairus Byrd ran a 4.67 in the 40 and is only 5'10" 207lbs. That scares the crap out of me, I don't care how versatile he was in college. I can't see much difference between him at Victor "Macho" Harris (4.68 5'11" 198lbs).

.........And I am guilty of proposing TE Pettigrew from Okie St. as our first round pick. But only because he might prove to be the bpa at #15. The rest of the draft, I hope is defense. Especially either/or a RDE or DT. :) OOOPS.......and an OLB.

Also of note, he doesn't have Jeremy Maclin(who I would really consider at 15) going until the 2nd round and has Sean Smith, Jarron Gilbert, L. Delmas, and William Moore all still available when we make our 2nd pick, for what it's worth...
And I agree, Jarius Byrd is not first day quality.

The difference is that Harris will be one of the top 3 or 4 DB's taken in this draft. And thats all I have too say about that.

You can't be Babin II, unless somebody gives up the farm to select you in the 1st round.

.........And I am guilty of proposing TE Pettigrew from Okie St. as our first round pick.
I understand the value in having a TE who can block. However, I just don't get the love affair with Pettigrew. If I really have to have an "all-around" TE who blocks and can provide a target in the RedZone, then I don't have to spend a 1st round pick to get one. I'm sure that I don't have to tell the Texans, but for those of you who haven't paid any attention to UVa, they have a guy named John Phillips. DraftTek currently has him as a 5th round pick, so go figure.
If you only want the blocking aspect the athletic TE can give, then I don't understand why we don't just get a guy like Lydon Murtha. He's considered a "reach" in the 6th round, but runs a 4.82 at 306lbs. I wonder what he might be able to do at 270lbs and if I could teach him to catch a pass. It's not like Bruener had defenses worried about him running down the seam when we brought him in.

Their latest mock is a good one.
1st Houston Texans: Clay Matthews, OLB, USC
2nd Houston Texans: Max Unger, C/G, Oregon
I think this pick makes a lot of sense for the Texans, who could use help at both center and right guard. Max Unger, able to play both positions, fits the team's zone-blocking scheme perfectly.
3rd Houston Texans: Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama
The Texans' secondary has been an abomination for years and has always missed a ball-hawking leader.
4th Houston Texans: Andre Brown, RB, N.C. State
The Texans really could use a power back to complement Steve Slaton.
4th Houston Texans: Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
Adding a powerful nose tackle would really improve Houston's bottom-10 run defense.
5th Houston Texans: Henry Melton, DE, Texas
The Texans signed Antonio Smith, but they still need a pass-rusher across from Mario Williams on passing downs. Henry Melton just ran a 4.64 at his Pro Day. Pretty impressive considering he's 269 pounds.
Change the Taylor pick into Vance Walker (Better fit IMO) throw in Gregg Isdaner WV in the 6th and whoever in the 7th and this draft couldnt be any better.

if it works out something like this in about two weeks, I'd be satisfied.

On 4/13, Walters has us taking
15 Clay Matthews, OLB, USC
46 Max Unger, C/G, Oregon
77 Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama
112 Andre Brown, RB, N.C. State
122 Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
152 Henry Melton, DE, Texas
Not a bad mock IMO. The interesting thing is among Walters comments:
APRIL 2 UPDATE: In the Who Will Philly Pick? thread on the forums, I discussed a potential trade between the Eagles and Texans. Houston would trade selection Nos. 15 and 46 (1,490 TVC points) for pick Nos. 21 and 28 (1,460). If Houston trades down, it could still take Clay Matthews at 21 and use the 28th pick on Ron Brace, Sean Smith, Louis Delmas, Patrick Chung or Alex Mack.

I like that draft just fine, but hardly anyone else projects Unger to last until 46. Andre Brown at 112 seems unlikely, also.

#28 for Ron Brace, Sean Smith, Louis Delmas, Patrick Chung or Alex Mack makes me cringe. I'm thinking guys like Ziggy Hood, Connor Barwin, Donald Brown, Brian Cushing, Knowshon Moreno, or even Percy Harvin represents better value for the pick.

I can possibly see Unger slide because of Mack and Wood, but Brown at #112 might only happen if his injuries are significant enough to make teams fearful.

Update 6th round added
15 Clay Matthews, OLB, USC
46 Max Unger, C/G, Oregon
77 Rashad Johnson, FS, Alabama
112 Andre Brown, RB, N.C. State
122 Terrance Taylor, DT, Michigan
152 Henry Melton, DE, Texas
188 Courtney Greene, S, Rutgers
I've been thinking, and I like a trade down Ole Miss did on TT.com, we trade #15 and #112, we get #22 and #54.
22 Connor Barwin, DE/OLB, Cincinnati
46 Alphonso Smith, CB, Wake Forest
54 William Moore, SS, Missouri
77 Andy Levitre, G, Oregon State
122 Kory Sheets, RB, Purdue

I looked at that update last night. If our draft turned out like that, I would be very happy.
