I think he could provide some good depth.http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6295105.html

Don't know much about him, but he was a second round pick so he's got to have some talent. He should be cheap, relatively speaking, and should give us good depth. He's been in a 3-4, but I don't think that's a huge deal.

From April 2005
Kevin Burnett, linebacker
6’2”, 235 pounds, 4.61 40-yard dash
Recruited as a safety, Burnett morphed into a tackling machine at weakside linebacker for the Vols. After tearing his anterior cruciate ligament in 2002, Burnett started every game the last two years.
Projection: Burnett is Tennessee’s only shot at a first-rounder, but he’s a long shot at best. A consensus top-five linebacker, Burnett should go early in the second round.

He might be a gem and was miscast in Dallas' 3-4. We'll see.

Definitely was miscast in that role. We are seeing a purge from Dallas: S Roy Williams, Kevin Burnett, TO.
I wonder if Bobby Carpenter is somewhere on the list.

Wow, I had no idea that Burnett was even available. I love that guy and he'd be an awesome WLB for us. The price tag is what will be the deciding factor for me. I'm trying to recall Karlos Dansby's contract, but I'd imagine Burnett would be in that neighborhood. Burnett was one of "My Guys" when he came out for the draft. I can only hope that we'd be serious about getting him on the roster.
I'm still waiting to hear where Sean Jones is going to sign.

Do you really think he would get in the same range as Dansby? I don't see how a guy with 2 career starts would get the same amount of money as a guy who has been a starter for most of his 5 years in the league and is coming off a Super Bowl appearance. I don't know what Dansby got, but I'm assuming if we give that to Burnett we overpaid.

I would be surprised if he got more than three years at four

You might be having trouble recalling it because he hasn't signed one. So far, he's just signed the franchise tender. And I would be shocked if Burnett's cost will be more than half of what Dansby will eventually sign.
I'm with you. I'd definitely like us to pick up Burnett if the contract is reasonable.

Well, perhaps that will get us a good deal. He would be better served to play in our 4-3 beside Ryans, than playing in the 3-4 of Dallas.

Does anybody know what Michael Boley got? I wonder if we could sign Burnett cheaper since Boley has production under his belt.

Boley got 5 years, 25 million. No idea on guaranteed money/bonuses.

Hmmm....then I'd give Burnett 4 years, 17 million. If I could get him cheaper, then that would be nice, but I'd be willing to bid on him.
Now, somebody get me Sean Jones' agent. :D

Yeah, I am a little surprised they haven't brought Sean Jones in either. The Chargers are also interested in Burnett.

The Chargers are also interested in Burnett.Doesn't the fact that no one has signed him or that there hasn't been much news of teams being interested in him raise some red flags? I mean some teams are more interested in signing a 38-yr old Safety (Dawkins) or a scrub FA Safety rather than signing this guy. It could be that he's pricing himself out of the market, but on the other hand, it could be a case of locker room cancer, or - if there's no smoke, it ain't so hot.

You could say the same for almost every single FA that hasnt signed a contract at this point then. And some have been on the market longer than Burnett.

the cream of the crop usually see a lot of movement early. Everyone else usually takes a little longer.

LZ made a similar point about Jones the other day. He was highly suspicious of a 26 year old free agent that wasn't getting much action and wasn't being resigned by his own team.
I don't know enough about the guy to have an opinion. However, when a guy this young isn't getting much attention, that does make me wonder.

Even at that, I'm hearing (er, reading) of a lot more interest in Burnett than Jones at this point. And I think Jones hit the market a few weeks before Burnett. I'm just laying out the possibility that, while we may think Jones would be a great addition, there may be something we don't know about him that's keeping teams away. Seems suspicious to say the least.

Well crap
I guess we'll just have to draft William Moore in the 2nd round now

This morning on 610 John McClain said that the Texans won't be signing Burnett. No further explanation given, at least in the brief time I was listening.

Probably asking way too much. I think the Texans were thinking 3 years at 5, I am sure he was thinking 5 years with double digits attached.

We'll see, perhaps he won't get what he's asking and we can find a middle ground . . .

If we can't get Burnett, I would like us try to go after Adam Seward to play SAM. He can also be a backup at MLB.

Wow! That seems like a pretty good deal.
