Sources close to each situation have just informed me of the following three upcoming transactions:
1. The Houston Texans will sign quarterback Patrick Ramsey to back-up Matt Schaub.
2.The Seattle Seahawks are targeting wide receiver Michael Clayton. He is their top choice as of the current moment.
3.Jonathan Stinchcomb is very likely to sign with the Seattle Seahawks.

I prefer to read that as, "Ramsey showed how deadly accurate he can be with his 66% completion percentage last year" . at least while in this pre-draft season of unbridled optimism.

Hopefully they don't pay him what they payed Sage who, if I recall correctly, had a pretty high base salary for someone that had been a backup QB. But ability-wise I'm fine with Ramsey as backup. I think he'll do reasonably as well as Sage did.

A lot of people place a high value on Sage because of Matt's inability to stay on the field and the perception that Sage plays well when Matt goes down. But, that doesn't really seem to be the case. In games that Sage has played a significant role, the team went 6-8. They went 4-0 against teams with losing records and 2-8 against teams with winning records. That's also 2-8 against playoff teams.

I'm not a huge proponent of placing a W-L value on QBs, but I think this puts some serious perspective on Sage's actual value to the team versus his perceived value.

Ramsey has never gotten his due: in 2002, he was the 3rd QB taken in the first round but I would argue he's the best of them!

Here's an interesting question that may not have a right answer:

Of those three QBs, who went to the best coaching staff? and the best organization?

Tricky question about 2002, you had David Carr picked first by Texans, Joey Harrington picked third by Detroit and Patrick Ramsey picked 32 by Washington. I guess Ramsey was on the best of those three teams. none of those three QBs have become great so far, but all still around. I really havent seen Ramsey play that much so hard to comment on his skills right now.

Not sure what happened last year.

If you recall, the Broncos came to Reliant Stadium in preseason week 1 (http://www.inthebullseye.com/archive/2008/20080810.html) (nice game from David Anderson in this one, btw). Nick Ferguson intercepted Ramsey's first pass attempt of the game. Ramsey went 6-11 32 yards and 2 INT (Jamar Fletcher made the other pick), probably why a lot of us (including me) are a bit lukewarm on this probable signing.

Dan Orlovsky is the second free agent quarterback who will visit the Texans.

Orlovsky, who started for Detroit in the Lions' 28-21 loss on Oct. 19 at Reliant Stadium, follows Denver's Patrick Ramsey, who was in town Friday and today. Orlovsky will visit today and Sunday.

In his start against the Texans, Orlovsky completed 12 of 25 passes for 265 yards and one touchdown. For the season, he threw for 1,616 yards with eight touchdowns and eight interceptions while splitting time at quarterback with Daunte Culpepper.

Arizona defensive end Antonio Smith is spending the day with the Texans. Smith is a candidate to replace left defensive end Anthony Weaver, who was waived earlier this week.
