The 3-2 Texans hit the road this Sunday to play an early game against the 4-1 Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs suffered their first loss of the year last week on SNF falling 19-13 to the Indianapolis Colts. The Chiefs are pretty banged up but still dangerous.

The Texans are coming off a 53-32 home win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Texans are in relatively good health and what appeared to be an "L" on the schedule at the start of the year is now an opportunity for them to spruce up there résumé.

I think this is going to be a close game and I have the Texans getting inside the number. Can they win? Sure, it's possible - but it could go either way. The Colts did it, why can't we? I have the Texans winning outright against a Chiefs team not at full strength.

I'm undefeated in Suicide (I'm at the bottom in the Pick 'Em) so I'm taking the Dallas gimme against the Jets. I'm 1-4 on Thursday nights but I think the Patriots can handle themselves at home against the Giants. These aren't Eli's G-men anymore.

How the heck am I supposed to choose between Washington and Miami? Ditto Atlanta and Arizona? Carolina vs Tampa in London is another game you can't predict. I did notice Tampa is L-W-L-W-L this year which means they will probably win this week.

Back to Kansas City. Indy used those solid OL picks they've made and just blew KC off the ball while forcing Mahomes to limp around which limited his creativity. I don't think Houston can copy this formula so I expect the Chiefs to win handily.

Indy beat gimpy Mahomes with no Hill or Watkins. Half the league could have done the same.

Meh, a couple of good weeks in Pickem and you can be right back in it. You are keeping me out of last place. :p I too am 1-4 on Thursdays - I can't imagine anyone taking the Giants tomorrow..... One school of thought on the Thursday games is that the short week and travel for the visitor is tougher than on the home team. Not always the case so far this year.....

Whenever I have a hard time making up my mind on a pick I go seek out what other people are saying about the matchup. I use Walterfootball (http://walterfootball.com/index.php) and SBR (Sportsbook Review) (https://www.sportsbookreview.com/picks/). These and other handicappers may not be right with their pick but they can give you some data to mull over....

This is the Thursday night I'd really love to be wrong about my pick.

Pats have such a ridiculously easy schedule. They are a lock for 11 wins but will probably get more because well, they are good and have TB12 and BB. Their only struggle so far was a 16-10 win over the Bills. Their defense is putting up ridiculous numbers but it's hard to tell how good they are because they've played so many weak sisters.

Prepare for an onslaught of Pats and the steenkin' Cowboys to dominate prime time over the next 6 weeks or so. The Cowboys have two Sunday-nighters sandwiched around a Monday nighter coming up. The Pats start with tonight's TNF and have a MNF and SNF coming up. They will end with yet another SNF on Dec 1 against the Texans....

Oct. 27 Week 8 flexible schedule changes: Raiders at Texans moved from 1 PM ET to 4:25 PM. Broncos at Colts moved from 4:25 PM ET to 1 PM. Both on CBS.

@506sports
CBS had planned Browns-Patriots as their main DH game in week 8. They might split the country up with OAK-HOU or at least leave it as blowout protection.

So, Week 8 game between Texans and Raiders gets moved from noon to 3:25 and will reach more viewers....

This schedule change is really good news mostly because Deshaun Watson is a completely better player more often the later in the day.

The viewership of the later game probably says as much about the Raiders being a little more watchable than anticipated.

...and the Broncos being a little less watchable. Denver suffers some of their worst defeats @ Indy historically. TBH, OAK @ HOU is a more interesting game. We tend to play the Raydahs well.

Gametime!

Texans win the toss and defer. Chiefs to receive. Chiefs bring it out to about the 20 but penalty on the Chiefs places the ball at about their 9.

Screen to Williams goes for big gainer, 52 yards. OB challenging that there was offensive PI (pick) during the play.....

Play stands.

2 penalties make if 1st and 25 at midfield.

On 3rd and 21, Mahomes hits Hill for the the 46-yard TD. Reid whiffs on the INT.

Chiefs 7, Texans 0

11:42 left in the 1st qtr.

Taking the penalty after stopping the Chiefs on third down made me think twice.... it pushed the Chiefs into a 3rd-and-21 and out of field goal range, so probably an obvious decision. But against the Chiefs, getting them to fourth down and long field goal range kinda felt like a win.

Being 4-2 six games into the season is realistically about as good as most fans could expect. The Texans can really begin to separate themselves in the division if they keep the magic going one more week in Indy. The second half of the schedule still seems a bit weaker than the first half.

Need to get some health in the secondary. Hopefully the injury Tytus suffered isn't too terrible, but even without him today, the OL was crushing it. Probably not coincidentally, Watson was as quick as I can recall when it came to getting rid of the football.

When he gets the ball out on time defenses have no answer. Their DBs were playing off because of the big play threat, and the LBs up to deal with the run game. Watson completed short hitches any time he felt like it, including for tons of conversions (including the one that iced the game). Teams are just terrified to play tight man because they know what happens if their DBs turn their back.

So if Watson keeps taking those throws to stay on schedule, he will force teams to give him what he really wants...a chance to make plays downfield when things break down. But if he doesn't take those short throws then the heads never turn, guys never break routes deep, Watson never gets to run, etc...

I think one of the Fuller drops was lost in the sun. Fuller was kinda making gestures at the sun after the long sideline drop. I dunno, maybe use one of those tinted visors on a cloudless, sunny day? He can look really awkward sometimes when he drops one. I've seen him make some tough catches before, too, so you get the bad with the good with him.

----------------------------------------------

Many mistakes made yesterday and yet they still won. 3 Turnovers. If you look at just the stats, it looks like a Texan blowout. The mistakes kept the Chiefs in the game..... An imperfect win counts the same as an perfect win....

----------------------------------------------

If the playoffs started today, the Texans would be the #2 seed behind the Pats.

-----------------------------------------------

Hoping the Texans keep their heads screwed on straight after this win. They are in a bit of a letdown spot after the nice win over the Chiefs. Indy, IMO, is a more disciplined team than the Texans. I think they are coached better.
Part of it will be for OB to keep reminding them they hadn't won jack, yet....

Early line (http://www.madduxsports.com/nfl-odds.php) has it as a Pickem to Colts by 1 next Sunday.

Fuller had 2 bad hands drops and one drop where he got spun around. His first half was as terrible as a WR can play. I was happy he caught some short passes in the 2nd half. Hopkins also dropped an easy one. If the WRs had helped out Watson the 1st half would have looked like the 2nd and we would have scored 50 again.

I don't think Indy is great. They play well from ahead because they run it and rush the QB. They are like the 2nd best version of the Matt Schaub/Arian Foster Texans. If we fall behind Watson is in trouble. If we start ok we are the better team and it will show.

Two weeks ago when the Broncos were 0-4 and the Chiefs were 4-0, this would have been as easy a pick as Dallas vs the Jets. Oh, scratch that. Maybe Alabama vs the Dolphins.

Broncos are still the same team they've been all year except without Bradley Chubb (ACL) and their secondary is very thin. It's the Chiefs I have to question but getting their speedy midget back should help. Colts and Texans both dominated the running game but the Broncos are more of a cutback team than a blow-them-off-the-ball team. I don't know what the line is but I'd take the Chiefs.

Regardless, I'll be absorbed with Game 5 of the ALCS on Thursday night (weather permitting) which may just be a nice way to avoid watching another drubbing.

Yeah, I watched the Astros last night and recorded SNF. Don't think I'll bother to watch Pitt vs. LAC, now that I know the final score. Astros gotta get one, (preferrably, 2 or more) in New York to guarantee resuming the series back in Houston.....

The chiefs don’t rush the passer or run the ball like the colts. And Watson definitely wasn’t better playing from behind against the Colts in the playoffs.

With this new and vastly improved offensive line it's a whole new world for Deshawn Watson, i.e, there's nothing like providing a QB with pass-pro to
realize his full potential.

I must say I've noticed the difference. Hopkins has turned into a possession receiver, the tight ends are medium-deep threats, and Fuller is there to scare secondaries that he might actually catch a deep ball.

Hyde and Johnson offer just enough of a running threat to not be ignored.

I'm still not sure we can beat the Colts unless we bring back Brandon Weeden.

I rewatched the game last night and the thing that stuck out to me were these new sets of plays where Watson rolls out right or left, he's got a TE (Fells) right in front of him, someone else (slot?) a little deeper then and then a WR (Fuller) even a little more deeper. Watson also could keep the ball and run. Good blitzbeaters and very Kubiakian. They were very successful until the Chiefs adjusted and then they were still kinda successful. You may recall a couple of penalties for "lineman downfield" to which Fouts observed the linemen couldn't tell if it was going to be a run or a pass so, I don't think they've worked out all the kinks out yet.

It was kind of refreshing to see. Watson should not have to be confined to being a pocket passer 100% of the time...

And just like Kubiak they have hit the throw back deep post off the rollout 2 weeks in a row (or would have if Fuller caught it this past week). Putting that on film is almost not fair for a safety.
