Texans traded OL Martinas Rankin to the Chiefs for RB Carlos Hyde (Ohio St., Cleveland, Jacksonville). They also sent a sixth-rounder to New England for DB Keion Crossen.

Among the cuts at the Chron (unconfirmed):

Per league sources, the Texans plan to officially release rookie quarterback Jordan Ta'amu, an undrafted free agent from Mississippi, former Indianapolis Colts running back Josh Ferguson, rookie nose tackle and Ben Davis graduate Javier Edwards, rookie outside linebacker Jamal Davis, former Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jermaine Ponder, outside linebacker Gimel President, safety A.J. Hendy, outside linebacker Jesse Aniebonam, offensive linemen Marquice Shakir, Christian DiLauro and Malcolm Pridgeon.

The Texans currently have five tight ends on the active roster: veteran Darren Fells, Jordan Akins, Jerell Adams and Jordan Thomas. Rookie third-round draft pick Kahale Warring made the active roster and wasn't placed on injured reserve. He has been sidelined under the NFL concussion protocol.

Meanwhile, quarterback Joe Webb was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury.

The Texans also cut cornerback Breian Boddy-Calhoun, wide receiver Chad Hansen, waived-injured linebacker B.J. Bello, cutting linebacker Davin Bellamy, running back Karan Higdon, offensive tackle Rick Leonard, wide receiver Jester Weah and they waived-injured Xavier Woodson-Luster (ankle).
