Nothing like a game versus the Jags to get my blood up early on a gameday. Here's hoping for the team's best effort of the season.

I'm not sure I expect a win today, but I sure as hell expect them to compete and make a damn game out it. I also expect the coaches to make better decisions and not force the team/players to overcome their boneheadedness (is that a word?). Last week's game was somewhat close, but IMO, they were extremely lucky to still be in that game that late into the 4th qtr. I expect much better across the board this week and in the future!!! Go Texans!!

Have to agree with you. Dont EXPECT a win but definatly expect to see a better performance than what we have seen so far. I knew it would take time before the offensive line got thier act together. I can understand with the slightly new scheme and coach and all. What I cant understand is how bad our defense has looked, particularly the front 7. Even Ryans who has decent stats so far hasnt done anything exceptionally well. Mario has had moments but needs to be more consistant.
Speaking of the defense has anyone heard anything about Adibi? Is he still hurt? Man we need some play makers on D.
Inactives: N.D. Kalu, Ahman Green, Mark Bruener, Brandon Harrison, Kasey Studdard, Rashad Butler, Eugene Wilson and Tim Bulman.

Here's hoping the Texans play well today, collectively and individually (especially Matt Schaub !). I wish I could predict a victory, but I just don't have the faith right now. But please, please prove my confidance in you was just misplaced Texans, because I would be truely thrilled with a victory today against the Jags. Best of luck !

Not such a good start so far. One first down and a punt. Big punt return. Jax one first down and they are in Texan territory. MILFord Brown with the hold. Now the Jaguars score on a fake punt.
TheMatrix31
09-28-2008, 12:15 PM
That play just pissed the ever-living hell out of me.
Keith
09-28-2008, 12:15 PM
F me sideways.
Texans receive the kickoff, get 1 first down and then have to punt.
Jags get 1 first down and then have to punt but fake the punt and run for 6 pts.
Jags 7, Texans 0

09-28-2008, 12:16 PM
The punt receiving team was in utter disarray. Why doesn't someone call timeout?!!!!!!
how hard is it to call time out?
popanot
09-28-2008, 12:20 PM
How can you not call timeout or see the fake punt coming in that situation? Kubiak is either incredibly stupid or surrounds himself with awful assistants - or both!!!
Well, good. At least they show the deep ball even if it was incomplete..

The Texans just got embarrassed. If you are getting schooled by Jack Del Rio then you really need to re-evaluate what you're doing.
The play calling on the first drive was absolutely mystifying. The quick passing game was working beautifully. Then the Texans line up in a formation that screams run and the CBs literally abandon their coverage responsibilities at the snap to swarm the LOS to stop the run. Next down? Same thing. Third and 14. That's great. If I know with 80% accuracy what play the team is going to run by looking at their formation, what do you think a defensive coordinator who watches 60 hours of tape per week thinks? It's mind boggling that after six years and two regimes this is still a junior franchise with no hope offensively because of little talent and clueless coaching.
The defense was pretty good. I was very impressed with the push the front four is getting. It IS the Jags' OL, but still.
I especially liked the way that the nobody who's never carried the ball in a three year career shoved Dominique Barber (wha had his back to the play) out of the way on teh way to six.
How did this team get so bad so quick?
TheMatrix31
09-28-2008, 12:22 PM
Shit, why don't WE try a freakin' fake punt?!
HPF Bob
09-28-2008, 12:23 PM
Maybe this franchise just blows chunks every three years.

09-28-2008, 12:23 PM
Does anyone know what the wind is doing in the stadium? Both of Turk's punts to the north have been terrible.
Good stop by the defense. Jags have to punt.
Watch out for the fake fellas!!!
----------
Nice return by JJ. Texans set up around their own 40 yd line.
HPF Bob
09-28-2008, 12:29 PM
Jacoby is a great returner if he catches the ball and starts running upfield. I think somebody finally chewed his ass about all the dancing he does and told him to just run forward. On this one, he made one move and then just head upfield.
TexicanMexican
09-28-2008, 12:30 PM
Now let's see some good play calling and adjust to the Jags bringing corners up to stop the run.
Whooo, Taylor almost fumbles after a nice gain.....

Fake FG. Do it Kubes.
Red zone woes continue but Texans get a FG out of it.
Jags 7, Texans 3
chuck
09-28-2008, 12:39 PM
Three plays in the red zone to gain one yard. Pathetic. Spoils what was otherwise a pretty damn good drive, starting with a nice punt return by Jacoby.
3 TSs in 10 RZ visits. Horrible.

09-28-2008, 12:41 PM
So far today Schaub playing better, much better. This is what we expect from
our QB. Go Texans !
TheMatrix31
09-28-2008, 12:41 PM
And as I say that, the drive stalls a bit with a stuffed play and a false start.
7-3 Jacksoffville.
Mario Williams TFL..
3rd down 7 for Jags... Garrard avoids sack.... Jags have to punt
Texans get the ball at their own 9
Dammit JJ, catch the freaking ball.

09-28-2008, 12:48 PM
Jacoby Jones is a wreck of a PR. I expect bad things to happen every time he touches the ball.
Doing not to bad on 3rd down conversions so far...
Texans at their own 43 yd line.

Now at the Jags 43.

TheMatrix31

Jacoby Jones is a wreck of a PR. I expect bad things to happen every time he touches the ball.
I disagree completely, by the way. I think he bought the team 8 or 10 yards by fielding that ball. I thought it was a great move.
Well, not much to complain about since the clusterf*** on the fake punt.
Slaton is the real deal.

I disagree completely, by the way. I think he bought the team 8 or 10 yards by fielding that ball. I thought it was a great move.He should have caught the ball the first time and ran with it. He would have picked more yards than he did. If you're going to let it bounce down there, you might as well let it bounce and hope it goes into the endzone.
Anyway, regardless of that one play or anything he's done in this game so far, it still feels like something bad is going to happen when he gets the ball. I wish I felt differently about it, and I hope he proves me wrong - big time.
That damn slant is killing us.
Oh no. I don't think they can overturn it.....
Demeco is back in....
Jags kick FG.
Tied up 10-10.
popanot
09-28-2008, 01:16 PM
Man I wish we could get some sort of pass rush. We seem to be the only team in the league that can't get any penetration at all.
Not a bad first half, I guess.
chuck
09-28-2008, 01:16 PM
I don't know who's getting abused more, Reeves or Mario. Reeves is getting picked on play after play, and he's not doing much to discourage them. Mario's getting held, tackled, tripped, you name it. The next flag I see'll be the first.
TheMatrix31
09-28-2008, 01:16 PM
10-10, I'll take that going into the half.
Halftime:
Texans 10, Jags 10
Stats:
Schaub: 14/19 for 134 yds, 1 TD, 0 INT
Slaton: rush = 7 for 16 yds, rec. = 4 for 53 yds, 1 TD
Daniels: 4 for 39 yds.
Leading tacklers: Many with 2
Time of possession: Texans 18:21, Jags 11:39

The team that does not commit a turnover is the team that will win this game.
TheMatrix31
09-28-2008, 01:31 PM
A turnover of some sort is coming soon.
Jags take the 2nd half kickoff and march right down the field. TD pass to Matt Jones.
Jags 17, Texans 10

Schaub needs to start checking down to the RB. Slaton has been all alone out in the flank a couple times today.
Schaub to Walter 5 yds for the TD. A red zone score!
Texans 17, Jags 17
Schaub looks a lot less "Carrish" today.
Schaub needs to start checking down to the RB. Slaton has been all alone out in the flank a couple times today.
Agreed.
We're looking more like the competitive team I've envisioned today.... (knock on wood).
Defense needs to get with the program....
yeah now let's defend that quick slant

Here we go with the poor tackling again.
What does Zac Diles do to impress the coaches so mightily when it's evident that he cannot tackle? I've heard of effective CBs not being able to tackle (or not wanting to), but never a LB.
TheMatrix31
09-28-2008, 02:06 PM
It's ridiculous. They're carving us up. I thought Thanksgiving was two weeks ago against Pittsburgh?
Whew, Texans finally stop a drive.
Jags get the FG.
Jags 20, Texans 17

OH YEAH BABY! 8 yd pass to KW..
Texans 24, Jags 20
Red zone - Schmed zone....

Son of a bitch, that looked amazingly like a real NFL offense.
When I saw that Schaub could deliver the ball cleanly I knew that it would result in a score. I've never had that feeling of confidence before.

NickO
09-28-2008, 02:48 PM

Great game. We played a great game. The deciding factor still lies on the fact that we can get no pass rush. Mario is the only one on that line getting anything similar to penetration. After he fights off the double team the ball is in the air.
On a good note though. We took the run away from a running team. Except for the fact that they forgot the qb can opt to run the ball if he so chooses.

How dumb does giving up a TD or not calling a timeout on that fake punt look now? I'm losing faith in ths coaching staff. And I wish they'd just go ahead and fire or demote Richard Smith. The D can't get any worse.

Tough loss. It would have been oh so sweet to win this one, but atleast we saw the kind of team we expected to see today after they extended their
exhibition season by 2 games this year.
Great game for Schaub: 29/40, > 300 yrds, 3 TDs, no ints. My faith in him has been restored, now lets see him play that way with more consistancy.

Offense - A : Nice gameplan and nice execution. Can't complain at all with the O today.
QB - A : Schaub was much better today. My only complaint would be he needs to check down to the RB once in awhile.
RB - B : Slaton is our best player right now. Chris Taylor needs to run harder and break a tackle once in awhile. Sad to say it, but he looks like a young Ron Dayne. Maybe not even that good.
WR - B : Not a bad effort from the WRs. Although, AJ need to make more plays and try to break a tackle or take on the DB/S once in awhile.
OL - A : I don't think they gave up a sack today and Schaub had time.
TE - A : Daniels was great today.
Defense - F : WTF... The D is a mess. Players out of position, bad play calling and obviously a badly coached unit judging by the tackling, etc. To give up that yardage 3-4 plays in a row to Garrard at the end was inexcusable.
DL - D : Everyone other than Mario, that is. The guy can't do it by himself! We're getting no penetration or containment at all. If you can't get to the QB, at least hold your position and don't let him scramble right up the middle.
LB - F : We're getting nothing from these guys as far as making plays (let alone BIG plays). And the tackling sucks!
DB - F : Reeves is awful and Bennett hasn't been much better. It's bad when Petey is your best DB. I'm ready to see what Molden or Wilson can do.
S - F : Were they even on the field today? How about knocking a WR out before or after the catch once in awhile? Let's give Barber some more time back there.
Special Teams - D : Kris Brown brings this grade up. Fake punt for a TD, no return game, coverage team never stopped them inside the 25 yard line, IIRC. Punting was nothing to write home about...
Coaching - D- : What can I say?? Kubiak and staff continue to be out-coached. And when DelRoido out-coaches you, it's pretty bad.

That would be nice. However, we still need a CB (maybe Molden), 2 LBs, 3 DL, and a couple of DBs on the back end. Then we could start running a defense like the Giants or Eagles. :D

Is that all we still need? just wonder if it is the coaching or the players, or I guess both ? Seems like everyone is giving defense and even special teams an "F" for today. I thought defense actually was better this week than previous two weeks. atleast a little better. but not adapting to game situations well.
I still hope due to all the youth we will get better as season goes along.
That was a terrible way to lose. I hate.. hate the NFL OT. Both teams should have a possession. The defense just sucks monkey wizz. How many times was Garrard going to tuck it away and run with it? 4th and 8 and that doughboy runs for 10 freakin yards. Ugggghhhhhh.
Next week that statue with a bad haircut is going to slice and dice us, and then scramble for first downs and I am going to watch blood leak from my ears.

Regarding the Jags' first TD I just heard Kubiak claim in a post-game interview that they were prepared for this sort of play and that they identified it and that they on the sidelines thought they would stop the play. This is absolute nonsense. If that's the case, why would you have the punt return team in and in punt return formation? The Jags didn't even have their f*cking punter in the game!
Kubiak's not fooling me.
By the way, I don't know why everyone's so bent out of shape about the over time rules. The Texans had the chance to stop the Jaguars and get the ball back in good field position. They didn't. End of story.

I saw the post-game interview on TV and saw his facial expresseion along with his body language while he made that comment, and he was not only full of crap but he looked totally shell-shocked from the OT loss.
I dunno, maybe they should turn over game-management to somebody else who thinks quicker on his feet than Kubiak and just let him assume the open-mouth, gazed-eyed look that Capers trade marked on the sidelines on Sunday afternoons ?
