It's Week 15 and the 2-11 Jacksonville Jaguars come to NRG for a noon Sunday game. The Jags haven't won a game in 2 months but they've been close a number of times this year. Six of their losses have been by 7 or less points. QB Blake Bortles has thrown for 3187 yards and completes 58.7% of his passes. He's thrown for 21 TDs, 15 INTs and has a 77.9 rating. The Jag running game consists of TJ Yeldon (432 yds, 3.6 avg), Chris Ivory (350 yds, 3.8 avg), Denard Robinson (127 yds, 3.4 avg) and Bortles himself (336 yds, 6.7 avg). Leading targets in the passing game are Marqise Lee (728 yds), Allen Robinson (639 yds), Allen Hurns (477 yds), Julius Thomas (281 yds) and Yeldon (278 yds) out of the backfield. The Jags defense has the interesting dichotomy of being a respectable 5th overall allowing 316.4 yds/gm but 27th allowing 26 points/gm. The Jags are coming off a 25-16 home loss to the Vikings.

The Texans won a road game last week beating the Indianapolis Colts 22-17. They need a win to help their chances of winning the AFC South. The Texans won the first meeting this year @Jacksonville, 24-21.

If there's one thing Bill O'Brien does well, it's beat the snot out of Jacksonville, 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread in his time here as head coach. Let's look at some wrinkles for this Sunday...

We are so beat up I don't know if we can field a complete team for this game ? Fido is turning into a poor mans Gronc but he's out and our best LB Mercilus is also unlikley to play. It doesn't look good.

Which, I surmise is the reason the line has fallen to Texans by 3.5 - I find that disturbing... Not a good sign... I'm sure hoping the Texans show up with their game faces on but the first time they beat Indy, they went up to Denver and laid an egg losing 27-9. Different conditions, of course, on the road, etc. but the game tomorrow/today is a very real let down situation for the Texans.... add in the injuries....

Could be worse, I suppose. Could be playing in KC where the high tomorrow is a balmy 12ºF.....

Temperatures across the Kansas City area at 4 a.m. ranged from minus-2 to minus-12 degrees. Add in the wind chills, and it felt like minus-30 degrees in some areas.
And the temperatures still had a few more degrees to drop before sunrise. By 7 a.m., Kansas City hit minus-9 degrees, tying the third-coldest reading this century.

Mariota, a Hawaiian boy, has surely never experienced those kinds of conditions in his lifetime so if he and his Titans teammates can beat the Chiefs in those weather conditions they deserve to win the AFC South which I think they will do if they win today.

Someone should ask him why the hell BO has been playing when Savage is clearly better. Someone should also ask him why, if he's such a quarterback guru, why is he always benching the hand-picked starting quarterback?

Despite the key injuries the defense is damn near championship quality. Get the key guys back and have a decent draft (I know, I know) and the defense could be absolutely outrageous.

Now we'll have to see if the organization is competent enough to stick with Savage. I'll believe it when it happens.

Jags fire Bradley (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000759029/article/gus-bradley-fired-by-jacksonville-jaguars)

-----------------------------------------

Savage had 3 completions for 20+ yards today. It's been so long since that has occurred...

-----------------------------------------

For a while, it looked like both the Texans and Titans would lose and Indy would win. All 3 ended up winning...

-----------------------------------------

Beginning to look like there may be a showdown with the Titans in the final game. FiveThirtyEight (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-nfl-predictions/) has added a choose-your-own-scenario. Click on the boxes to see odds change.. Looks like the Texans could lose to Cincy but it would then be mandatory to beat the Titans if they want to win the division. Titans will most likely beat the Jags which still makes for the showdown game and if the Titans win out, there in..... I'm smelling a flex game here.....

It's not even like Savage was really that good today. He was about average, if even that... and yet so much better than anything we've seen from Osweiler over the last two months or more.

The cellophane has been torn on Savage... time to leave him in for the remainder of the season. Nice to see the quicker release. And the OL somehow looks better with Savage back there too, imagine that.

Akeem Hunt is getting opportunities, which I like. But he has to be more careful with the ball.

Clowney is really fulfilling his potential this season. A shame he doesn't have J.J. Watt on the line with him. This is a terrific defense without Watt... I feel cheated out of seeing just how good it might have been had we had Watt, Johnson, Simon, etc healthy this season.

Credit to the Titans for pulling off the win over the Chiefs on the road in December. That's legit.

Savage has always been a good relief pitcher. I'd probably start Ozzy next Saturday but with a short leash. The pressure to win to keep his job may be the best thing for him.

I honestly thought Tennessee would lose last week or this week. Now, even though the Texans have the tiebreaker, it could boil down to New Years Day in Hicksville having to stop that 1-2 punch of Murray and Henry. Winner gets the title. Believe it or not, the runner-up in the AFC South has an outside chance at still being the #6 seed if it all breaks right.

8-6 and seemingly all with mirrors. They could be 9-7 and miss the playoffs altogether.

Watching the Texans in the second half yesterday it almost looked like a different offense than the rest of the year as I saw a series or two where they thru the ball on consecutive plays and hey they thru it downfield. I thought "who is that team " ? I thought Savage was exceptional given he hadn't played in the regular season since last year and came off of the bench cold with no real preparation and brought us all the way back.

No way, no how should Big Bird start next week. It wasn't only the INTs that got him benched. It was his inaccuracy. Look at the tape and the guy was throwing ducks all over the field. Has been all year. Sure, Savage had some not so great moments, but he won and moved the offense. He was way more accurate, lead his receivers, put the ball in position where only the offensive player could make the play, and most importantly, was able to use the field outside the hash marks. Big bird only has the ability to use the middle of the field and can't even do that well. You can tell the whole team was rejuvenated when Savage came in - especially the WRs and especially DHop. I say if you're going to go down in flames, you go down with Savage because you know darn well at this point you'll lose with Big Bird at the helm. Time to move on.

From a PFF article: "Osweiler is currently 35th in the PFF QB rankings with a grade of 40.9".

That's out of a 32 team league. Unfortunately, the guy is trash and is not going to get any better. I just do not see how anyone can justify this guy playing. I don't feel sorry for him and I don't think he should get another start. He's had his chance - and he's also taking it to the bank.

Radio saying Las Vegas has the Titans favored at 55% to win the division, Texans at 45% to win the division. Note, Vegas usually bases things on "public perception"..... The Titans have beaten KC and Denver in the last two weeks and are indeed "hot"....

FiveThirtyEight (https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-nfl-predictions/) is a little kinder (using whatever formula they use) having the Texans at 55% and the Titans at 42% to win the division.

Whatever, it looks like the Titans & Texans are destined to solve it in a showdown in Week 17. On the road, @Tennessee. It will be a playoff game for the playoffs. Our "new QB" has one more preparation game (Cincy) to shake off the rust and find some chemistry with the receivers....

-------------------------------------------

Texan defense is now #1 (http://www.nfl.com/stats/categorystats?tabSeq=2&season=2016&seasonType=REG&role=OPP&d-447263-n=1&d-447263-o=1&d-447263-p=1&conference=ALL&defensiveStatisticCategory=GAME_STATS&d-447263-s=TOTAL_YARDS_GAME_AVG) in yds/gm allowed. Of course that isn't the full picture...... They're 12th in pts allowed with 21 given up per game. Getting Mercilus back will help. JJo? Hope he's ready for the Titans game....

We just need to win 1 of our last 2, if I'm not mistaken. Of course, they have a much better schedule since they play a crap Jags team in shambles and then us at home. I'm hoping the Jags bench Bortles this next game. The guy is a mess.

True because they have to win both games and we don't. They can't take their eyes off of the Jags this weekend.
Who knows how the Jags will come out next week ? Very likely depressed and flat after losing their HC but maybe the interim coach (whoever that is ?) will get them fired up and they will be at home ?

Video - Every Tom Savage throw (http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000759177/Every-Tom-Savage-throw-from-Week-15) - about 4 minutes.

Hop really should have had the pass in the endzone about half way through the video... Not the 4th and 1 pass, a deep ball thrown later in the game....

Amazing with all the injuries the defense is in first place. I think points, allowed is a function of field position and turnovers by offense.

Also, I think the way Texans win is slightly misstatements above. If either team ends up at 10-6 they win the division. If both teams end up at 9-7 the Texans win. If either team looses both, the other team wins.

Who cares how a bunch of drunk rednecks react? These are the same dumbasses who cheered their own player getting injured.

Savage has always been a good relief pitcher. I'd probably start Ozzy next Saturday but with a short leash.

Always? Always meaning the one time he entered the game when Fitzpatrick got injured back in 2014? Or the other time, a couple of games before, when he entered in a blowout and didn't throw a pass? WTF are you talking about?

Never mind the fact that you are literally the only person on the internet (other than Titans fans) who thinks BO should start much less ever play again, ever. In response to Keith, I don't know how good Savage was or is, but I know that we all saw a totally different offense with him in the game to what we've seen with Brock all year.

We've all seen the stats, the ones that insist that BO is bottom three in any meaningful passing metric you want to look at. The ones that insist that he is 99 out of 100 all time at his age with X number of attempts. Those numbers are gruesome. The eye test is worse. I don't know why he's so terrible and I don't know why BOB can't fix him and at this point I don't care. The Texans have an elite defense and a good to very good running game and an OL that looks a hell of a lot better all of a sudden. If Savage had been playing all along providing league average production the team would be fighting with the Patriots for home field advantage.

I can't wait for next year. BO will be the most expensive backup in the history of the league and that vile, reptilian owner and his fking ass licking lapdog will have to sit there together every single game a stew in their own watery shit.

Anyway, if what we saw Sunday is indicative of what Savage can deliver then I am suddenly a lot more optimistic about making the playoffs and actually being competitive once we get there. I agree with Chris Simms, with Savage the Texans can beat anyone in the AFC save New England.

Chuck, I'm speaking of his 4th quarter comebacks in the exhibition season when he calmly marched future insurance salesmen and sanitation engineers down the field to beat teams like the Broncos, Saints and Cowboys when it didn't matter. O'Foulmouth's record in August would look a lot worse without him.

It's called 'protecting your investment'. Osweiler has an NFL won-loss record of 13-8. That might look attractive to a team like the Browns, Jets or 49ers. Maybe you would be happy to eat $36 million on a bad investment but I'd give him a short leash on Saturday to get his mojo back and then let Savage play if Osweiler doesn't get off to a hot start.

If he stinks, you fall back on "he was hiding an injury and we didn't want opponents to know".

Well, I don't know much about reptilian lapdogs, but Savage has certainly created a stir, not so much around Houston but the whole NFL. It's rare that our little burg of 6 million gets so much national attention. Tongues have been wagging about the Texans on ESPN, NFLN and NFL.com the last couple of days. Merrill Hoge, on one of those late-night ESPN/NFL programs, spoke very glowingly of Savage after watching the game tape (vs. Jags) and just about everyone seems to be endorsing the switch....

I think for us fans, he (Savage) represents hope. He didn't suck too bad in his "debut", so there's hope he can keep it going. I think a few have already mentioned how the offense looked completely different with Savage in the game. He's going to have a bad or not very productive day eventually, but we can hope that happens sometime next year.....

----------------------------------------------------

Brock doesn't exactly strike me as a Mensa member and you don't have to be to be a football player. QB is a little different though, as there is a certain amount of "snap" and leadership needed to play the position. It's a mystery to me how his skills have declined..... he seems to struggle with throwing an intermediate pass in the general vicinity of the receiver and with a deep ball, forget it. He used to could make a few of these. So, if he's not hiding an injury, one has to conclude that he's become a little mental about things (at least, that's my conclusion)...... Since he's probably going to be on the roster next year, the break should serve him well....

Well, maybe the Browns, but any team exec in their right mind, save for Rick Smith, would take Kessler right now over Big Bird. As for his mojo, he can't find something he never had. The guy is just plain awful. His record is mostly based on great defense, not anything he's done. You do not put him on the field unless absolutely necessary. Savage might not be the answer, but finally, hopefully, we'll find out.

Get his mojo back. That is awesome. Baubles, you are in fact crazier than I ever knew.
