View Full Version : Official Texans @ Vikings Game Thread, 10/9/2016
The Texans travel up to Minnesota Sunday for an early game on CBS. The 4-0 Vikings are coming off a 24-10 MNF win over the New York Giants. Going back to last year, the Vikings defense has held opponents to 17 pts or less in seven straight games. Their offense is led by QB Sam Bradford who is game managing well and keeping the turnovers down. The Vikings lead the NFL with a +10 turnover differential. The Texans have a -3. In short, the Vikings have an awesome defense and a below average offense.
The 3-1 Texans are coming off a 27-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans. They will need to play as mistake-free as possible to have a chance in this game...

It's a bit annoying that the prime time games feature six NFC teams. I wonder how often that happens.

Good catch, I did not notice that. Also, you can expect a heavy dose of Dallas every week as long as they keep winning (Actually, we get a heavy dose of Dallas whether they are winning or not). I do understand they have a big following but I'm not one of them. Thank goodness this year I got a free year of Sunday Ticket when I signed up with DirecTV......

As it seemed, OL went from rank 11 last year to 29th so far this year.

I call them the Dallas Kardashians because I think the Dallas team has a big fan base for the same reason the Kardashians do - yes the Kardashians have a very modest level of talent but they are celebs and people like them because they seem to like the whole celebrity thing, why I'm unsure ?
Anyway back to the upcoming game. I don't have a good feeling about this game but I'm often wrong so hopefully I'm off base again on Sundays matchup with the Vikings.

I think the Vikings facade can be smashed if the Texans bring their A game. Are they capable of that on the road? That's the part I can't tell you. We have the weapons now to turn a few big plays into a win even if we lose the statistical battle.
I think a phrase seen on a Cubs fan t-shirt fits here:
"Try not to suck"
Let's go Texans!

This team is totally incompetent in every facet of the game. I can handle losing, but having a team that is simply embarrassing - from the disgusting owner to the bullshit stadium, surely the worst new stadium in the league built not for football but for goat roping, to the finger painting, paste eating lapdog of a GM, it's just fking tiresome.
This franchise will never be worth a shit as long as McNeck is in charge, and, as I always say, it will only get worse in a couple of years when Fredo takes over.
It's one thing to get outwitted by Belichick. It's quite another to get totally undressed by Norville freaking Turner.

The secondary is a mess missing so many. And of course the defense is missing J.J. Watt, too.
Offense has been a disaster. OL is overmatched, and Osweiler is locking on a receiver, off-target, and not showing any poise.
Special teams allowing a TD isn't helping either.

We have a -22 point differential in just 5 games.

Wonder what Osweiler's QB rating is in road games this year? He shouldn't take all the blame though. Wish I could figure why this team has these type of games where they are blown out early. Remember that Dolphins game last year, the one Ryan Mallett didn't even bother to show up for? Games like that keep happening and it mystifies me how they can be so terrible and yet pull out close games elsewhere.
Oh well, if they can beat Indy at home, they'll have their two-game division lead back.

It's probably not a simple answer.
One thing in common seems to be facing a good/great team on the road. Recall last year the Miami and Atlanta games - those were 40+ losses. The team started 2-5 and everyone had written them off (myself included) on the postseason. Then the defense seemed to find themselves, they gave us the lone jewel that was the MNF win over the undefeated Bengals (on the road) and finished the season with a 7-2 record.
This year we have the 27-0 shutout at New England and yesterday's 31-13 loss to the Vikings. On the radio a while ago, they were suggesting that the team didn't have enough "dirtbag" mentality... perhaps an offshoot of the high character types we/they seem to accumulate... I dunno....
To me, it's as though under OB's watch, the Texans sometimes morph into a bad Jacksonville Jaguars team... Good/great teams slap them around. After these losses, OB will say "I got to coach better". Our new QB says "I got to play better". Sure is nice of them to identify the problem....;)
I think in truth, both are still developing. OB is in the third year of his first gig. Brock Osweiler is in his first gig as a starting QB. Whether the team can find an identity and reach a certain level of competence for the rest of the year remains to be seen.
BTW, the Texans are the standard 3 pt favorite over the Colts in the upcoming SNF game....

Home: 80.4
Road: 58.3
Overall: 70.6
Osweiler doesn't seem to be getting better, which is troublesome, but we have to give the Vikings defense a lot of credit, same as other teams have to give the Texans defense credit (ahem, Bears and Chiefs) when their offenses suck.
Surprised the opening line per Arky is only about a field goal. The Texans at home against lesser opponents should be closer to a touchdown.
