The Chicago Bears pay a visit to NRG stadium this Sunday to play the Texans in an early game on FOX. It will be the season opener for both teams. Like the Texans, the Bears will be operating with a patchwork offensive line due to injury. Still, the Bears are expected to start QB Jay Cutler and he can run hot (or cold) at times.... The Bears have a new offensive coordinator, a new RB and the aforementioned interior OL.

The Texans will have a new QB, some rookie wide receivers to break in, a new lead RB and their own new faces on the OL. The Texans have never lost to the Bears (3-0).

Better win this one or no way we are serious contenders in 2016 because next week with the big, bad Chiefs coming to town and then a few days later we travel to New England for a Thursday night game to visit Belichicks Patriots the games only get tougher, lots tougher.

That was a terrible half of football. These guys need to pull their heads out of their asses, quickly, or they'll end up last in the division and drafting in the top ten, maybe higher. Which is not really what you want after dropping $70MM on a franchise quarterback.

The pass protection is not great but they're running the ball well. The secondary is shaky. Poor decision by BO on the pick, terrible execution by Fuller on a pass that could not have been better and was six points in the bank.

Osweiller sure throws a great deep ball. He has been average on everything else, but the deep ball is beautiful. Too bad for him Fuller and Hopkins have dropped TDs.

Fuller is definitely a stud though. The speed is a real weapon. He runs by guys without moves. The YAC is something I didn't expect though. I can put up with occasional drops if he is that big a weapon.

I was going to say the same thing until I saw your post.... The moves after the catch, are a pleasant surprise. He's got good moves....wasn't expecting that... Him knifing through the secondary on the screen pass TD was slick....

I will say a lot of young receivers come into the league with the dropsies... some get over it, some don't. I guess we'll see which one he becomes.....

Texans might end the day in 1st place in the AFC South....

For the first time in a few years, I'm working on Sunday afternoons so I can't comment until that night or the next day. The browser will let me read your comments at work but won't let me reply

The early game looked like the same Texan nightmare we see in our sleep - pass interference on Kareem, offensive holding on everyone, extending their drives and killing ours. Now we add the deep ball drop by Jacoby Jones, er, I mean Will Fuller.

Sucks that Cushing is hurt yet again (and will probably be joining Duane Brown on the waiver wire next spring for cap reasons). But the pass rush does look sweet when we get J.J., Clowney and Mercilus on the field at the same time. I could see the Bears didn't know who to double-team.

Ozzie's corkscrew delivery looked scary. Seemed to put the ball right on the money though - just with no touch. Good thing Beanie and Cecil (aka Nate Washington and Cecil Shorts III) aren't around to drop those passes, leaving more for our TEs and Fuller to drop.

But the Bears are sort of like the NFC's version of the Bills - a team you ought to beat if you don't beat yourself and that's eventually what happened.

1-0 and alone in first (thanks, NFC North) is just the right way to start the season. Now to get our revenge on the Chiefs.

Looks like JD Clowney may be back to his college position as a DE with hand on the ground when at South Carolina as that's where he played exclusively yesterday. I might be mistaken but I don't think he took any snaps standing up as an outside LB.

Fuller can drop if he also catches 100+ yds and a score every week.

In fact, that was the problem with the offense in the first half against the Bears. It's like Godsey/O'Brien/Osweiler or some combination thereof just turtled once the early interception was thrown (or really just stripped from DeAndre's hands).

Everything about the offense seemed to be meant to stretch the field wide and not deep. It opened some running lanes for Lamar Miller in the first half - he had some nice gaps between the tackles - but it played right into the Bears gameplan to take away the Texans deep speed for which they obviously had no answer. The Bears were ready for the off-tackle rushes.

Here's hoping Godsey and O'Brien allow the offense to stretch downfield in spite of the occasional drop. Should they keep doing this out of a 3-wide set, L Miller will still find room with 7 in the box.
