Report: Brian Hoyer and the Houston Texans are headed for a divorce

When the Texans decided to give a $72 million contract to Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer probably got the hint: He's not exactly wanted around in Houston anymore.
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the Texans have no plans to hold on to Hoyer as a backup quarterback and the two sides are "headed for a divorce."
Rapoport didn't specify how that divorce might come, but there are really only two options here: The Texans will either trade or cut Hoyer. It's possible that Houston is waiting for the quarterback market to shake out before making any big decisions.
For instance, if Ryan Fitzpatrick were to re-sign with the Jets and the 49ers were to hang on to Colin Kaepernick, that would leave a team like the Broncos still looking for a quarterback.
I don't think the Broncos are in the mood to do the Texans any favors frankly. They'll find a taker for Hoyer but not in Denver - that smells too much like an Osweiler for Hoyer "trade".

I won't be surprised if Hoyer is still on the roster when the season begins in September. Now I don't mean as the starter, but we need a backup if Brock gets injured and going into the regular season would the Texans entrust that responsibility with Savage ?

If Hoyer goes, surely there will be either a free agent added (Yates? Weeden?) or a another guy drafted with starting potential (Hackenberg? Prescott?) to compete with Savage for the backup job.

I really like Weeden. I hope we can somehow resign him this year.

As anticipated, the San Francisco 49ers opted not to cut Colin Kaepernick ahead of Thursday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, meaning the quarterback's $11.9 million salary is fully guaranteed for 2016. Thursday marked the deadline as opposed to Friday because 4 p.m. Thursday marked the deadline for transactions to be submitted prior to April 1.

Looks like Rick Smiths bargaining position for getting some value by trading Hoyer may have just improved a bit.

The Texans resigned quarterback Brandon Weeden today.
Weeden gives the Texans four QBs along with starter Brock Osweiler, Brian Hoyer and Tom Savage.
Hoyer is expected to be traded when the Texans can get the best deal possible.
The Texans claimed Weeden on waivers from Dallas last season, and he helped them win two games, including their first win in 14 tries at Indianapolis. Weeden's contributions helped the Texans finish 9-7 and win the AFC South.
Weeden threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns on 26-of-42 passing in two games, including one start at Tennessee.

Good deal, I like this and would seem to pave the way for releasing/trading
Hoyer but don't know what the price tag is for Weedon ?
This report seems reasonable and logical, but it is April 1st and never know ?

The way for Hoyer's release/trade was paved on January 9.

Weeden got a bad deal for him. Weeden gets paid only if he is on the 46 man roster.
Seems Hoyer will be traded at some point, and it also puts pressure on Savage to step up.

Quote:
Weeden's two-year, $4 million salary includes an $800,000 base salary in 2016 and a $450,000 roster bonus. He also receives $37,500 for every game he's on the 46-man roster. That's a maximum of $600,000 for the game-day roster bonuses and a $1.85 million total.
In 2017, Weeden gets a base salary of $1.55 million. He has the same game-day roster bonus and a maximum of $2.15 million in the second year of his contract.
Like the Weeden re-signing. Kinda wish we could've seen a little more of him last season..... Should be good insurance if the unthinkable happens (Oz and Savage both get injured). He deserves a statue outside NRG just for beating the Colts at Indy....

Hoyer signed by Chicago yesterday. All the best to him. Good backup, team player. Didn't see details.

I guess he figures Cutler is fragile enough that he'll get some playing time.
His best position is coming off the bench.

The real mystery is what will happen to Fitzpatrick. I mean, when a Harvard-educated white guy can't get a fair wage in Obama's America, what hope is there for the rest of us? ;)
