I think Lynch is a project...we have a project in Savage that is already on the roster. I don't think Cook could lead a buzzard to roadkill.
The only thing worse than not having a Franchise QB is investing in a a guy like he is when he's not.

I would say this is mostly true. Not attempting to get a franchise QB year after year is worse than both.

And I totally agree on Lynch, and it appears it is true about Cook. Any multi year starter at QB that does not get voted team QB his senior year probably has issues.

If it were possible to trade down and gain an extra pick and be able to select TE Hunter Henry, QB Dak Prescott, and RB Kenneth Dixon in this draft, I would buy season tickets.

Ooh, that would be nice... Prescott has Russell Wilson-type upside, IMO and of course I like Henry (Arkansas). Really like the heads-up he showed vs. Ole Miss with the lateral.... they called it the "backwards Hail Mary"....

Wilson was in a very pro style offense at Wisconsin. Prescott may have Wilson potential long term, but he has way more to learn about playing NFL QB than Wilson did as a rookie.

Depending upon the Combine, I might need to move Jayron Kearse and Miles Killebrew up my draft board. A couple of badass players on the backend. Also reviewing more tape on Jacoby Brisset. He's got some talent and size.

TE Hunter Henry
RB Kenneth Dixon
QB Dak Prescott
RB Aaron Green

Dak drops from #9 to #35. What happened?
I realized that I love Dak's game more than Draft Scouts. So, if I can wait until the 3rd round to get the guy I want, then I can save my 2nd round pick for a player who will not last to the third. There's a certain amount of gamesmanship when making a draft board. I have guys that I really like and I have to maximize the opportunity to select as many as possible. Perhaps CBS Sportsline has players like Prescott, Kenyan Drake, Aaron Green, Matt Ioannidis, Blake Martinez, D.J. Reader, Miles Killebrew, Jacoby Brissett, Kevin Hogan, and Jayron Kearse too low or I am rating them too high. We shall know more after the Combine.

Medical salesman and color commentator for Illinois State University football team. He was placed on IR with the Texans and given an injury settlement. He was great as a Special Teams player with KC before being converted into a Fullback.

As I am reviewing tape, mocking, comparing Combine measurables the list will get tweaked. I may warm up to the idea of adding players to the list or removing if I don't like the perceived value. Currently I am considering Darron Lee and Jaylon Smith. Yet, not sure I want to draft an ILB to replace Cushing with a 1st round pick. Now, if one of them runs a 4.47 and Benches 30 times, I might change my mind. I am all over the place on Dak Prescott. I wouldn't be opposed to taking him at #22, but if I'm the only one who feels like that and I could get him in the 3rd round after selecting the best TE and RB to go with him, that would be foolish. So, I need to establish his value. I also need to determine if Lynch or Cook would be an upgrade over Savage next season.

When I looked at your list I was surprised you had Dak at 26. IMO the QB positions is so important, and we need a solid guy at that position. So if you think Dak is the guy, you have to rate him above some of the other positions/players you have ranked above him.
And as you state, if you (or the Texans) are the only team ranking him that high, who are you missing out on?
I am torn also. One thing I do know right now, I am not on the Hackenberg in the 2nd round bandwagon. If he falls far enough maybe, but the young man has showed very little the last two years. And I am tired of seeing mocks with him in the 2nd and Ezekiel Elliott in the 1st.
I notice you don't have Ezekiel Elliott on your list, what are your misgivings with him?

I'm probably going to rank Dak Prescott high enough to select in the 2nd round. The problem is that I really want to take Kenneth Dixon too. I'm not sure that I can have both. I don't like the idea of drafting a RB in the 1st round unless his name is Adrian Peterson. I got burned on Melvin Gordon last year. The only reason I'm willing to spend a 2nd round pick on Dixon is because he has the size and speed to be an every-down back and he can catch passes out of the backfield. If I don't get him, I'll need to draft 2 RBs to replace Arian Foster. Maybe Aaron Green and Jonathan Williams. I don't have Elliott or Henry on my list because I feel like they are overweight and overvalued. Coming from those offenses behind those Offensive Lines, they had huge holes to run through. Hard to scout the vision and shiftiness of a RB who has 4 yards before a defender is close to tackle him.
I say this every year it seems, but if I could trade down and pick up another 3rd and 4th round pick I would be very happy.

I agree with trying to get both these guys.
My problem is in knowing this is a deep defensive draft and we are needing to go offense. The deepest are is DL especially 1st round DL.
There are NT and DE types that would help the defense out.

I agree that there will be plenty of DL drafted the first 2 days. My favorite value pick to replace Jared Crick is Matt Ioannidis from Temple. The NT Jarran Reed is going to be special as will Deforest Buckner, but I don't think they last to #22. Butler is probably the 2nd round pick I pass on for a QB or RB. Maybe I look at Javon Hargrave, but most likely fit/value pick is D.J. Reader to take over for Wilfork.
The other thought I have is forgetting about my pipe dream of an "athletic QB" and wait for Kevin Hogan who would be a great fit for this system and they could potentially get him with a 4th or even 5th round pick.

His great uncle should be in the HOF, the late Alex Karris.
He is graded by NFL.com with a score of 5.1. Which places him right at the 30th best OL guy in the draft. Which has him in the mid to late part of the draft.

The board is fluid. As I am watching the Combine, I was impressed with the RBs...Henry, Elliott, Prosise, Lasco. The OL Conklin, Spriggs, Kelly, Westerman, Dahl, and McGovern gave me hope. I was disappointed by Dixon (wish he was faster) and Booker (wish he would have been able to run) and Decker (looked stiff). I have decided to be all in with Dak Prescott and have Lynch as my fall back guy. The board will change again the next few days once I can analyze all the data. Then even more as I continue to mock and see what I can expect on draft day.

That is one of the changes that jumped at me. I want to see the guys throw.
Also Elliot was faster than i was expecting, but his pass catching skills sucked. He is not going to be a Foster clone, but he can block and run with the best of them.
Dixon's time was respectable and faster than Arian Fosters forty (4.68) in his combine. And his hands are natural, he looked very fluid with the ball in the air. Now Dixon did look stiff in the hips.
Also I was impressed by Henry, he was not fighting the ball like Elliot in the pass catching drills. For a huge man, he looked very good.

My hope is that we trade down and pick Prescott in the 1st round.
Henry was explosive for his size. Elliott not being a very good receiver concerns me. Dixon was good but less than I expected. Prosise reminds me of David Johnson.
If we trade down and gain additional picks, I would love to get Westerman and plug him in at OC and maybe Joe Dahl to play RG if we don't sign our FAs.

And in most of my mocks, i am jumping all over the trade down idea. Unless you are sold on one of the guys at 22, trade down and grab picks. There are a few 4-3 DE/3-4 OLB that we have no business taking that might be garnering some trade interest.

I'm thinking that a team might be willing to trade for Lawson or Calhoun....perhaps a RB or OT too.

A case could be made that we need an OT and/or RB, not as much as we need more picks in the first 4 rounds, preferably in the top 3 rounds.
And now that they are talking about keeping Foster.

I agree that we need a RB and OT. But if we could pick up extra picks by trading down, those picks could potentially be parlayed into Kenneth Dixon and Kyle Murphy and I would still be able to select Dak Prescott. If I am getting my guy to develop, I want the luxury of surrounding him with support instead of forfeiting picks to trade up for a Paxton Lynch. I considered what the Redskins gave up for RGIII.
We won't cut Foster because of his salary...we will cut him because of his inability to stay healthy. It's not a lie by Rick Smith, it's semantics. The GM wants to have a"poker face" considering the owner has told the world that we are getting a QB.

I haven't seen the TEs yet, but my initial reaction to the QB and WR position is meh....The Guys who ran were slower than I expected. Too many 4.5s and Will Fuller caught the ball today in drills after posting a 4.32....so he is going on my board. None of my guys jumped as high as Paxton Lynch (36"). Treadwell could not break the 10' threshold for the broad jump.
Paxton Lynch's footwork was exposed to be a project that will take time to refine. He has a gun like Mallett, but I would be concerned about the short to intermediate passes. My guy Dak Prescott was only 226lbs and ran slower than Carson Wentz. I figured he would be around a 4.62. But, I still like the balls he threw and felt somewhat validated by Kurt Warner who witnessed the same 'touch' on his throws.
Besides Fuller, I am adding: Marquez North, Charone Peake, Jordan Payton, Cody Core,Trevor Davis, and Kolby Listenbee to my board. Burbridge, Sterling Shepard, Braxton Miller, Tyler Boyd, Josh Doctson, and Michael Thomas all disappointed me a little bit today.
*edit* Just learned that Sterling Shepard had an Official time of 4.48 (which is better than the 4.5 unofficial time) along with a 41" Vertical and the 10'3" Broad Jump. So, I am good with those measurables. I just wish his arms were longer than 30 3/8".

This is a defensive draft, and we need offense, cause our owner has said it. I have know for some time that WR class was week.
Also I am really pi$$ed off that more guys did not run today.

Hunter Henry only did 13 reps on the bench and had the audacity to not run a 40? At least Vannett had a respectable 17. Hooper got 19 and ran a 4.72. Not anything Outstanding, but at least he wasn't afraid to compete. I like the thought that Vannett has 34" arms and 10" hands. Looking forward to seeing what the other measurables are.

This is a defensive draft, and we need offense, cause our owner has said it. I have know for some time that WR class was week.
If we don't draft a NT and DE, we are "reaching" - that being said, I'm looking for the next Donte Moncrief. Cody Core would look good in a Texans uniform.

Charles Tapper and Emmanuel Ogbah just impressed me. Both had 1.59 Ten-yard splits....I'm going to have to watch some game film on OU/OSU.

After watching the OL I have a cluster of players who are about the same type of player who I value. Thuney, Glasgow, Ehinger, McGovern, Beavers, Dahl, Haeg, and Fahn Cooper.
Today, I have a cluster of players who I value at DL. Kenny Clark, Hargrave, Ridgeway, M. Collins, Billings, A. Johnson, Butler, Chris Jones, and Ioannidis. It will be interesting to see where they are selected.

Charles Tapper should be around #42 on my list. I added him today with Ogbah and then didn't sort him out in my rush to "publish" my updated board. :/

I would have Laremy Tunsil ranked #1, but I am 100% sure that he will not be available when we pick.

Roy, I have a couple of questions. In the past, it has been my impression that you put your "My Guys" list together with a slant toward the position needs of the Texans. I could be wrong about that, but if that's the case, why do you still have Goff and Wentz at the top of your list? I don't see them drafting a QB before Round 5, if at all.
Second question, and it shows how slow I can be on the uptake sometimes :o, but why do you not have Cory Coleman on your list, especially since you have Jay Lee? Coleman's 2015 stats and his measurables, except for size, are far better than Lee's.
Thanks for putting these lists together every year. It gives me a good starting place each year when looking at the draft.

Yes, the list of MY Guys that I post here considers the Texans team needs. I have Goff/Wentz/Lynch still high after the signing of Osweiler because Brock has not proven to me that I am set at Franchise QB. I doubt that they are available at #22, but if they were, I would select them.
As for Coleman....he is projected to be a 1st round WR. I would only select Doctson or Treadwell at #22. If he's available in the2nd round, I'd probably rank him just behind Sterling Shepard.
Roy P

Treadwell ran a 4.65 - 40 unofficially at his Pro-Day. So, now Doctson is the only WR I would think about taking in the1st round. Otherwise I can get value with Sheperd, Malcolm Mitchell, Kenny Lawler, of Keyarris Garrett.

I traded with the Broncos my 2nd round pick for a 2nd and a 3rd. The Broncos selected Vadal Alexander at #52. I got Josh Garnett at #63 and with the extra pick selected Kamalei Correa at #94. Matt Ioannidis came off the board at #88.

This last list is more interesting to me and probably more useful than your traditional My Guys list, which of course I always enjoy and appreciate.
The idea behind My Guys was that I would come up with a small list of guys who could provide value and fill needs for the Texans roster compiled of players who I believe would translate to the NFL and be core players fitting our system. Then what happens is I get questioned why I don't have such a player on my list and what about this other guy. This year players like Ezekiel Elliott, Dereck Henry, Paxton Lynch, Corey Coleman, Will Fuller; to name a few were brought to my attention for being omissions. So, I figure out where I might place them into my board if they were to fall. I also have a philosophy much like Drew Boylhart of TheHuddleReport.com - where I evaluate the talent. Then consider the media, hype, mock drafts, politics, and external factors that may differentiate between the Talent Board and the Value Board. In this class I am not ecstatic about the Tight Ends, but I believe that this roster needs to upgrade. So the TE position is probably overvalued. Henry isn't a all-around TE, but his ability to catch the ball gives him value. Nick Vannett is probably the most complete, but I am not sold on the pass catching skills. Ryan Kelly iz one of my favorite players who I see going in the 2nd round in many mock drafts. Darron Lee is my prototype of what I want from the ILB position instead of Cushing. I'm not sure that the Texans would buy into my thought process. Conklin is the best OT who I project might be available for the Texans at #22. He could be insurance for Duane Brown and start at RT. Other OT prospects like Ifedi or Spriggs will experience growing pains. I would prefer a player who contributed right now like Doctson or Shepard.

I'm hoping we get Ryan Allen also but 22 is probably too high for him so I am trying to trade down and still take him at the bottom of the 1st or early 2nd. However, if I see a good LT or edge rusher or Reggie Ragland falling to 22, I might pull the trigger on that person and grab a center later if Allen is not there.
I usually see Allen on the boards somewhere between 25 and 50.

Very helpful. Sounds like due diligence mostly but when you see a name you haven't heard of and then they all the sudden they choose that guy in the sixth round and you ask "Who the hell is...?", you can go back and see that they met with the guy during private workouts or pro days.

There are many critics claiming that it is not very strong. Perhaps there is not going to be several members of the Hall of Fame coming out this year, but I do believe that there are many players who can be more than simply "contributors" who may make the team on Special Teams or as a 3rd stringer. The Texans are like my beloved Colts in many ways in terms of team needs with the major exception being QB. Both teams desperately need OL help. The Colts have a potential solid player in Henry Anderson while the Texans have JJ. The NT and opposite DE are team needs for both. Whitney Mercilus played well and JD Clowney is a top pick (with major injury concerns) but I would claim that another OLB would be welcome. Conversely, the Colts need a pass-rusher badly. The ILB position is another area where depth could be sought after as well as S. The Colts don't need a TE like the Texans do and neither do they require a WR. That being said, I could see Both teams targeting some of the same players.
Considering my target audience, I will focus more on what the Texans should do in the draft. In the first round I believe that Laremy Tunsil is hands down the BPA. Most likely, he goes to Tennessee and JJ Watt will have to face him or Taylor Lewan for many years to come. The best Tackle left in the draft from my perspective is Jack Conklin. I have him ranked third behind Goff and Wentz, who I only have listed because strange things can happen on draft day and I would be foolish to not draft a Franchise QB if given the opportunity. Back to Conklin....I am very afraid of Duane Brown's injury. I don't like uncertainty at LT when I am trying to protect my QB. So, at best I have LT covered with Conklin should Brown be unable to go. At worst, I have upgraded my pass protection and running game with Conklin at RT. If I am unable to secure Conklin because he is off the board in the 1st round, I'm going to be targeting Joe Haeg of ND State later on.
I have Darron Lee ranked next, and truth be told, I hope he is drafted by the Colts. Experts will knock his size and say that he is a WILL in a 4-3. However, his athleticism is freakish and the idea of him covering a TE or RB out of the backfield makes me giddy. Most likely, he goes to another team, but I'm always on the lookout for a guy like Derrick Johnson, Karlos Dansby, Sean Weatherspoon. My backup plans include Kamalei Correa, Nick Vigil, Blake Martinez, or Josh Perry as more 'traditional ILBs'
Assuming Lee is off the board or just not viewed as a good fit in the 3-4, my next guy is Ryan Kelly. He is big and bad and smart and fills a very important position on the field. He blocked for the National Championship team and the Heisman Trophy winner. I've mock drafted him in the 2nd round, but have no problem whatsoever grabbing him at #22. If the Colts don't draft him at #18, I will once again write letters to have Grigson fired....but I digress. The best case scenario is trading down for extra picks and still taking Kelly, but that may be my fantasy world If he is unavailable, I would like to take Graham Glasgow later in the draft. He is a big kid at 6'6" 307lbs with 10 3/8" hands and 33 5/8" arms. Not sure when he gets drafted, but he has versatility to play 4 positions on the OL.
The most likely selection for the Texans, in my opinion, is Josh Doctson. Initially, I was a big fan of Treadwell simply because I value being able to make catches even when you are 'covered'. However, after watching film and crunching measurables, my favorite WR in the draft is Doctson. He's not a burner like Fuller or Coleman, but he gets open by being a smart route runner and he has the ability to make contested catches. I would invite anyone to take a look at some stats compiled by Matt Harmon @ http://www.thebackyardbanter.com/the-2015-reception-perception-project.html
I know that there is group-think that the Texans need a player who runs a 4.3 - 40 to take the top off a Defense to help take the pressure off of D-Hop. However, I am more impressed by a WR who can move the sticks and keep an Offense on the field. His 4.5 is decent, but his 6.84-Cone, 7.08-Shuttle, 41"-Vertical, 10'11" Broad Jump, 9 7/8" hands are Outstanding. If he had ran a 4.37 in the 40, we would have no chance selecting him at #22. If we go a different route in the 1st round, I would bang the drum for Malcolm Mitchell who is my "poor man's version" of Sterling Shepard. I also have Shepard rated as a first round talent, but at 5'10" I would have to trade down to make him a selection and garner extra picks in the process.
Other 1st rounders on my board include Taylor Decker (who is a RT only in my estimation), Vernon Hargreaves (who looks like a legitimate starting CB), Zeke Eliot (I hate taking RBs in the 1st round), Paxton Lynch (Who I would sit for a year behind Osweiler), Shepard (already mentioned), Treadwell (too slow for my tastes, but that's what they said about Anquon Bolden), Michael Thomas (Ohio St had a guy here who I think is kind of a Sleeper and might slide to the 2nd round).
The NT position is very important to me in the 3-4. Every year I'm looking for the guy who is stout against the run and has the ability to push the pocket. I was high on BJ Raji, Marcell Darius, Vince Wilfork, Haloti Ngata, and Dan Williams to name a few. I was not a fan of Danny Shelton last year because I felt like he was forced down our throats by the Media as the next big thing. This year I was big on Jarran Reed and DeForest Buckner. Then the Combine came and I started looking at other players with similar skill sets and athleticism and felt like I was weighing them too heavily. Buckner would be more of a 5-Tech DE and I have considered taking him off my board after his Combine, but I was really excited about Reed. This is a 'very good and deep DL' class by most accounts. So, I wanted to separate the cream from the milk and I came away with Maliek Collins as my top dog. He's only 6' 1 7/8" and 311lbs which is shorter and lighter than I like my NT to be (6' 3 3/8" and 330lbs). However, his other measurables blew me away....1.79-10, 5.04-40, 7.53-Cone, 4.52-Shuttle, 29.5" Vertical, 9'1"-Broad Jump, 25-Bench Press, 9 1/2" - Hands, and 33 1/8" - Arms. So, I took a long look and decided that this was the guy I wanted to plug the middle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqJNuDpnWAw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUXXTwJrpEo
My fall back plan is Javon Hargrave. Watched his All-Star games and came away impressed. He is moving up draft boards, but who knows....If we could trade down and collect some picks, then we could take him in the 3rd round, maybe?
Another player who I have drafted in many mock drafts is Joshua Garnett. He is a day-one starter at RG and I no longer have to worry about my run blocking. He is also very good at pass-protection by just utilizing a strong base and setting his anchor. He would be a great selection in the 2nd round. If he's not available, I would consider Connor McGovern in the 5th round to groom.
I'm also thinking about the DE position to replace Crick. I was pleased with Christian Covington's play last season, but he is only 6'2" so I am intrigued with Carl Nassib and Bronson Kaufusi. O'Brien is familiar with Nassib from Penn State, and he had a 1.62 10-yard split which is insane for a nearly 6'7" 277lbs man. If we get Garnett in the 2nd, there's a possibility to get Kaufusi in the 3rd round. He's 6'6" 285lbs and had a 1.69 split. Kaufusi's 7.03-Cone was better than Nassib's 7.27 and his Shuttle of 4.25 was better than Nassib's 4.37, so I'm not sure why he is rated lower. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7s0KiubyLvA I realize this is heresy, but he reminds me of JJ Watt. So, I have Nassib ranked higher based upon Mock Drafts and the 10-yard split, but I would probably take Kaufusi in the 2nd and be pleased. Other than these 2 players, I don't really have a great DE in the 3-4 and would look to fill other needs if they are unavailable.
Having a NEED at Tight End in a 'poor' TE Class really sucks. I'm most likely going to 'reach' to fill this need. The top ranked TE was Hunter Henry and I was on board. There was even discussion of taking him at #22 just to have the position settled. Currently, Nick Vannett is my do-it-all TE. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt of being underutilized at Ohio State just because they were loaded. I've seen flashes of pass-catching ability, I like his size at 6'6" 257lbs 10" Hands, 34 1/4" Arms. His Cone-7.05 is decent and the Shuttle of 4.2 is above average. I have him as a late 2nd round early 3rd round prospect. Next I have Hooper followed by Henry. I really want to select a TE and if they are selected earlier than I am prepared to do, then I wait and hope....Tyler Higbee and Jerell Adams are really just big WRs who offer little in terms of blocking. My Combine Darling is Beau Sandland. He's 6'4" 253lbs, 10 1/8" Hands and 34 1/4" Arms. He benched 225lbs 23 times. He jumped 10' 4" and 35". The 4.33 Shuttle was among the best among TEs. His 7.1 Cone was not bad. I won't lie and say I watched all his games in Montana, but if I miss out on the top TEs in the class, I give this guy a look.
This Safety class is an enigma to me. The prototype for me is Sean Davis, who may play CB in the NFL. Again, I'm looking for guys who can cover the Gronkowski's of the world or at least make it look competitive. I am not a huge fan of the way he tackles, but if he can make pass break ups and be willing to put his nose in the pile, I have to take a long look at him. A 6.64-Cone and 3.97-Shuttle, to go along with 37.5" Vert, 10'6"-Jump, 21-Bench, 9 1/2" Hands 31 3/8" Arms places him heads and shoulders above the other Safeties in this class. So, I would take him over Vannett even though I want a TE. The fall back plan at S includes: Tyvus Powell, TJ Green, or KJ Dillon.

Was unable to trade out of the 1st round so I took my favorite WR. Traded my 2nd round pick for more picks and then traded that 2nd round pick for more picks. Unfortunately, I traded myself out of taking Maliek Collins who was selected @ #74. I was still able to get Garnett though at #77, so I was pleased about that. I drafted Sean Davis @ #100, but was upset to see Vannett come off the board @ #106. Correa can play ILB and some OLB on passing downs and consider him to be a real steal in this draft. I already had Doctson, but could not pass up on Malcom Mitchell @ #166. I took Jonathan Williams at #195 over Keyarris Garrett (selected #234), Kevin Hogan (selected #213), because I had 2 WRs and I wanted a RB. Williams is a big back (5'11" 223lbs) coming off injury, but his 6.97-Cone and 4.29-Shuttle were too much to walk away from.
I was unable to get a TE, but I am calling Sandaled and Dan Vitale right after the draft to sign as UDFAs.

So, it looks like the Rams have traded up for the services of Jared Goff. I'm keeping him and Wentz on my board simply because nothing is certain just yet. In all likelihood neither are available when we select. Just did a mock and selected my 1st Non-QB prospect in Conklin. Getting anxious to see how this shakes out.

Just listening, to a few NFL analysts today, sounds like Conklin will be gone by pick 22. But if there that would be a good great pick.
I'm wondering if defense will move Clowney to DE.

Calhoun, Kaufusi, Tapper, and Nassib are on ESPN's "Big Board" as 4th round picks on the "GMs Roundtable." I found that to be interesting. Will note when they are actually drafted as they are some of my favorite Edge Rushers in this draft class.

Okay, so I feel like my board is 'set' and I can look forward to the draft tomorrow. And I sit down in front of my t.v. and listen to Mike Mayock unveil his mock draft. I'm feeling confident that I'm getting Conklin, Lee, Kelly, or Doctson and wouldn't you know it....they are all off the board at #22. So, my top guy is WR Michael Thomas. Laquon Treadwell is drafted #23 by the Vikings. Other players I have with 1st round grades who remain undrafted by pick #32 are: DE Bronson Kaufusi, WR Sterling Shepard, DE Carl Nassib, OT Jason Spriggs, NT Vernon Butler, and NT Kenny Clark. So, I'm willing to look for a trade that the Texans can slide down at the most 7 spots and pick up some extra picks in the 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th rounds.

If I had to stay at #22, I'd take Butler in this scenario but I'd rather trade down. If this played out, and the Broncos wanted Connor Cook, I'd offer them our #22 for their #31 and their 31st pick in the third.
BTW, not buying the Broncos taking a S in the first round. 65-70% sure they take the best QB on the board and, if not, it will be an OL or a DL.

Roy, I know you were all over Dak Prescott from the early draft process. It's just preseason but you look like a genius so far. He's been great against the scrubs and it looks like he'll get a chance to be great against real NFL players as Romo is hurt again for anywhere from a day to the rest of the year (depending on if you ask Jerry Jones or a doctor).

Since Romo got hurt on like the third play Prescott played against their ones for quite a while. I hate to say it because, you know, Cowboys, but the guy is playing out of his mind.

It would be hard to swallow if the Cowboys foolishly bet on "4 more years of health" for Romo (Jones' words), only to have Prescott fall in their laps and bail them out.

I felt like he reminded me of Steve McNair. He improved from being just a running QB to be a more well-rounded QB who improved his touch and accuracy. But what impressed me the most was his leadership at Mississippi State. He put them on the map and carried them on his shoulders. He was not overwhelmed at the Senior Bowl and actually impressed me again. The only RED Flag was the DUI before the draft. I knew that would drop his draft status. Being behind Romo, I thought he would get some playing time, but didn't believe that he would be the starting QB in week one. I am definitely not a Cowboys fan, but I will be watching to see Dak develop.

Sometimes I just outsmart myself. Another reason I dropped Dak was because we signed Brock Osweiler, and I don't believe that this coaching staff would be a great fit for Dak

That seems to be exactly what happened.

Watching the Patriots tonight and noted Joe Thuney and Ted Karras are starting. A couple of My Guys I targeted later in the draft.

I had Nassib #14 & Green #43. I wish that the Colts would take a look at my draft board. Nassib would have been nice in the 2nd round. Sorry, but scoring 35 points and still losing makes me perturbed.

Dak Prescott is having a pretty nice little rookie season. As My Colts are starting Tolzien against the Steelers, it would have been nice to see him playing with Andrew Luck out. I am also of the opinion that it would have been better to have drafted Dak in the 3rd round instead of signing Brock Osweiler as a Free Agent here in Houston.

So Roy - how did the whole league (including Dallas) miss it on Prescott, even Dallas didn't draft him until very late in the 4th round with their second of two 4th round picks ?

The whole league missed out on Dak Prescott for a couple of reasons. I would have to believe that the DUI he got right before the draft didn't do him any favors. Then, there was the Tim Tebow bias against him since he was running the same show with Tebow's ex-offensive coordinator. Teams didn't feel like the college success would translate into the NFL. Still I was surprised to see that the Patriots selected Jacoby Brissett before Prescott in the draft. I had Brissett as a plan B if Prescott went early in the draft. All I knew was that Dak improved every year with his paasing, and turned around the Mississippi State program and had them ranked. Every time I saw him play he exuded confidence and leadership. Not the fake motivation, but actual passion and his teammates followed him. I knew he was a project, but I loved his demeanor and work ethic to bet on his continued success.

Turns out 4th rounder Prescott is not a project but rather a ready to go NFL starter his rookie year. It would seem a better example of a project is #1 overall Goff with the Rams. I think the truth is hardly nobody can successfully evaluate college QBs re their NFL potential.
And just look at what "QB guru" Bill O'Brien missed in his first Draft with his second round pick: Derrick Carr, Garralo (spell?) Bridgewater.
