148 Jayron Kearse SS Clemson Jr 6-4 220
180 Demarcus Ayers WR Houston Jr 5-10 190
Offense heavy. And I don't want to trade up in the 1st, but that is the hand currently laid in front of me. Until we have a better idea of the QB rankings, this is my guess.
This will change a lot between now and April.

Perhaps due to trades we will gain a fith rounder for Keshawn Martin, and two seventh rounders - one for Case Keenum to Rams and one for Fitzpatric to Jets.
But loose a sixth for Mallett from Boston and a seventh from Denver for Chris Clark.
So that is likely a total of 8 picks this year. maybe. likely no compensatory this year.
Right now I'm thinking no trade up required for QB, but as you mentioned , lots of time till draft actually takes place.
Just me, I'd probably target a TE before a RB which means I think some upside to running backs we have now.
A 6'4" safety to keep up with the big TE's like Gronk sounds reasonable.

I knew we had gained some picks and lost some picks, but I was to lazy to look it up, so thank you for the correct rounds and # of picks in each.

Time for a new mock:
22 Vernon Butler DT Louisiana Tech Sr 6-4 325
52 Kenneth Dixon RB Louisiana Tech Sr 5-10 215
85 Dak Prescott QB Mississippi State rSr 6-2 226
116 Cole Toner OT Harvard Sr 6-5 305
146 Jayron Kearse SS Clemson Jr 6-4 220
154 Graham Glasgow OG Michigan rSr 6-6 306
177 Temarrick Hemingway TE South Carolina State rSr 6-5 245
Butler is athletic and large, takes advantage of Wilfork to teach him the ropes.
Dixon is a versatile back that can run between the tackles or split out and run routes.
Prescott is a project that has leadership skills and has become a solid passer.
Toner had a solid Senior Bowl, and showing the skills to stonewall guys from the big schools.
Kearse brings the size for the SS position, is also a ball hawk.
Glasgow can play center or guard, well coached in college.
Hemingway is a big bodied split out TE.

I like it. No real surprise, we often like the same type of players, PK. It's still early, but do you like Vernon Butler more than Jarran Reed or do you believe that Reed is off the board by #22? I am also a fan of Kearse and am eager to compare his measurables to Miles Killebrew

Yes we do often agree on players, you appear to be the more analytical of us two. I like to see guys in one on one drills and such, I'm not so into the combine numbers they put up. But I do look at measurables.
As for Reed v Butler. I used the cbssports.com rating of the players, and I try not to grab players after their slotting. CBS has Reed as #21, so in my mock he would be gone. But I am not sure which guy I would rank ahead of the other all things being equal. Butler looks more fluid and does not move like a 325lb guy. Granted Reed's highlights are against guys more skilled than Butler has played. I would love to be able to go back and watch the Senior Bowl Practices again.

Really on Conklin? Please explain your thoughts on him? Are you looking OT as insurance? (Which might not be a bad move, but you have a lot of cap $ committed to OT already)
Cooper can return punts and has size. (I don't like how he carries the ball like a bread loaf away from his body).
Miles Killebrew is a solid thumper at SS.
Are you really willing to wait until the 4th for Prescott?
Henry Krieger Coble video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM-9csLQr-Y) This coaching staff does like them some boys from Iowa.
We both have Green. My question is can he return punts and can he also play some in the slot? He will be a matchup problem with LBs not being able to cover him.
Beavers looks like a solid raw LT prospect.

I was looking at BPA best case scenarios. I really want TE Hunter Henry in the 1st round, but wanted to go a different way with this mock. I'm scared of the injury Duane Brown has to his quad. The O-line is horrible without Brown in the lineup, so I figured Conklin was good value at #22 and could start RT on day #1 or provide excellent insurance for Duane Brown down the road (later if not sooner). I drafted Beavers late because Mke Mayock has him ranked as his 5th best Tackle and there the guy was still on the board.
Pharoh Cooper is a guy I have heard a lot of buzz about. He would complement Hopkins and Strong while providing Special Teams ability. I am eager to see comparisons with Sterling Shepard of Oklahoma who is currently ranked lower.
Killebrew is similar to Kearse in my opinion but again currently ranked higher. A thumper who has some ball skills and the size to match athletic TEs. Could also be a Gunner on kicks.
I would be sweating bullets to wait for Dak until the 4th round. But, Bryce Petty was a 4th round pick last year and I loved him coming out. If I missed on Prescott, I would have gone Jacoby Brissett or Kevin Hogan later.
Aaron Green is elusive and quick. He reminds me of Reggie Bush, so I would want to pair him with another RB to split carries. Kenyan Drake is the other RB I like to fit this role, but Drake is ranked higher and not as good of a bargain. I beleive Green could be like Andre Ellington or Gio Bernard.
Krieger Coble was the bargain TE I grabbed since I didn't get Henry. I also like Vannett from Ohio State.

If the Texans waited until the 4th round to select a QB - any QB - there will be a mob with pitchforks storming on Kirby Drive.
So if Dak is the answer at QB for this team, who then starts for you week 1? Dak? Savage? Hoyer?
Keep in mind the past two seasons how much the overall success of this team has suffered due to a lack of even a decent QB. Another year of taking a mid-round QB and starting essentially a street FA in Week 1 will not go over well.

I too have been toying with a an OT early for insurance, with both Ben Jones and Brandon Brooks being FAs, I can see a highly likely scenario where one of those guys walks, creating a need for inside help. If Brown is healthy day one, drafting an OT would allow Derek Newton to slide inside to RG. Which in theory, might improve the team. Or you can move the rookie to RG and not expose the edge to a rookie.
Toner is available in the 4 on most mocks and now I can watch Beavers also. I would not be unhappy if we ended up with both Beavers and Toner after the 4th round. But if Mayock is seeing Beavers skills and I saw Toner's skills, little doubt the NFL guys missed them as badly as the mock guys are.
Roy, you and I often find guys low on the mock draft list that end up being drafted in the top 3 rounds, so I would bet that these two guys go earlier than the mockers have them going.

Until I hear other wise, Hoyer is BOB's guy, for now. I would hope they keep Weeden and Savage and let them battle it out, cut Hoyer. Let the rookie be the 3rd guy and learn. Also do like Roy has suggested and hire a QB coach. I would add the QB coach to do nothing but work with the rookie and get him accelerated.

Yeah, that's why I think Prescott goes 1st or 2nd round. CB Cyrus Jones is at least a 3rd round prospect if not 2nd round. Jayron Kearse, Sterling Shepard, and Aaron Green are 3rd or 4th round picks at the least.
All the players I think I can wait until the 4th-7th round for will be long gone.

I let Savage start with the first 4 weeks. A 2-2 start warrants a 5th start. A 1-3 start is my cue to give Dak a shot to see if he has made progress.

The idea that we'd have a mid round rookie as a 3rd stringer and Hoyer starting games is absurd. Bob McNair is already making media rounds saying we are going to draft a QB.

They've already committed to enabling the stadium for wifi so frankly I don't know how much more forward momentum the organization is capable of right now.
On another note, the team's second and third round picks are usually a shitshow so as far as I'm concerned if the team grabs a dude named Pharoah and then another dude named Scooby I'm going to have to call that a win.
What if they use #22 on Hack? ;)
That would certainly stir things up...... What if that was OB's plan all along? Use schmucks for 2 years until Hackenberg came out...
Not sure I would like it but it would certainly put OB in a make or break situation...

Maybe Hackenberg stunk it up for 2 years just in case the Texans didn't have the #1 overall pick so he could ensure that he could be reunited with OB.

IMO the downside is not that severe when and if missing with the 22nd pick in the Draft. Now if they were to use that pick, along with the second and/or third round pick, and our future first round from the 2017 Draft to move up for a QB, that move has a very steep downside if the QB were to crash&burn. But for the the 22nd Draft pick alone, they should use it on Hack if they like him even if they have him rated as only a second-round value.

154 Graham Glasgow OG Michigan rSr 6-6 306
177 Temarrick Hemingway TE South Carolina State rSr 6-5 245
I wanted to look at where some of these guys are ranked on a few different sites.
Vernon Butler is ranked : CBS Sports - 33; Walter - 15; Draft Tek - 105
Kenneth Dixon is ranked: CBS Sports - 75; Walter - 71; Draft Tek - 82
Dak Prescott is ranked: CBS Sports - 115; Walter - 115; Draft Tek - 110
Cole Toner is ranked: CBS Sports - 125; Walter - not rated; Draft Tek - 136
Jayron Kearse is ranked: CBS Sports - 152; Walter - 79; Draft Tek - 45
So a lot of different views for the guys at the top. And that is what the NFL Draft will be like, only one team has to have the guy you have targeted in the 5th round ranked 45th overall and you loose him.

That's why I find it a waste of time to rank all 250 players and only focus on My Guys. My draft board has enough players to target in each round that will fit into a system and fill roles on the roster. The trick is trying to figure out how to maximize the draft class and getting the positions you want filled with the best undervalued players without the need of having to reach for your guy.
Dak Prescott being ranked #110 is amazing to me. Perhaps it's because he is not 6'5" or because he played in Tim Tebow's offense. Not really sure, but I would love to get him in the 4th round. The question becomes do I risk waiting that long and potentially missing out on him. My fallback plan would then become Jacoby Brissett. However, he could come off the board by the time I got to pick again and if I was targeting him in the 5th would that be a reach? Worse, what if I panicked because Prescott was gone and I traded up for Brissett and missed out on Kenyan Drake or Jayron Kearse.
This kind of "what if" scenarios makes me want to pull the trigger on Dak in the 2nd round so I make sure I get my QB and keep as many draft picks as possible.
I still have regrets that we were waiting for Jimmy Garoppolo to fall to the 3rd round. :(

Corey Coleman: (http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/corey-coleman?id=2555333) The 5-11 WR from Baylor is in the 4.3 range, and he can stop and start, making him a possible PR guy also. Watch the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKC4gjniBAE&list=PL7beoccrCdzLXXHdanJWi_y20Z9SST8-V)

So, last night I decided to perform my 1st mock draft utilizing Fanspeak On The Clock this year. On my first attempt I selected the following players before my phone locked up:
1st round - QB Carson Wentz
2nd round - ILB Jaylon Smith
3rd round - RB Jordan Howard
4th round - SS Miles Killebrew
Then I waited for the 5th round to load, but eventually decided to just start over. So, on my 2nd attempt I was able to choose the following:
1st round - NT Jarran Reed
2nd round - TE Hunter Henry
3rd round - RB Devontae Booker
4th round - SS Miles Killebrew
5th round - DE Matt Ioannidis
6th round - QB Kevin Hogan
7th round - RB Kenyan Drake
I have to admit that I would be quite pleased with that draft if it played out that way. :)

I'm trying to cherry pick from a few different sources and utilize the picks you were able to garner.
#29 TE Hunter Henry - I believe that he is being ranked lower than he will eventually be selected. I am considering QB Paxton Lynch here as well.
#52 QB Dak Prescott. He is why I was able to choose the best TE with my 1st pick. If I had gone with Lynch in the 1st, I would like to be able to take WR Michael Thomas here to add to Hopkins and Strong.
85 RB Kenneth Dixon, Jordan Howard, or Devontae Booker (whoever's the BPA). I'm also considering S Miles Killebrew or Jayron Kearse.
93 SS Killebrew or Kearse....the idea of doubling up back to back S at 85 & 93 intrigued me.
120 WR Aaron Burbridge - since I passed on Thomas in the 2nd, I grab one of my favorite big WRs in the draft. I honestly feel as if he is the main reason people are so high on Connor Cook because he caught a lot of inaccurate passes.
129 RB Kenyan Drake - I like his Special Teams ability, believe that he could potentially share some carries so the RB workload could be spread out.
159 DE Matt Ioannidis - a workhorse who can play inside too.
166 QB Kevin Hogan - I have no problem drafting 2 QBs. My other thought was taking a 2nd TE here....Jerrell Adams or Tyler Higbee
167 NT DJ Reader - I have to believe that he is greatly undervalued, but I keep seeing him ranked this low. Yes please, and thank you.
198 RB Aaron Green - Taking 3 RBs in the draft might be silly. I see he has been snubbed by the Combine, so #198 might not be out of the question. Plus, if I took Kearse and Killebrew with my 3rd round picks I would be comfortable with Drake and Green as my RB by committee. My other thought was OG Joe Dahl.
The only thing that concerns me is not being able to choose an OL, but the class isn't that great to find a bargain. Perhaps Westerman or Garnett in the 3rd round wouldn't have been a bad idea. I also want an ILB to replace Cushing, but maybe I look harder next year. Lastly, I considered CB Maurice Canady, Harlan Miller, and Cyrus Jones.

I am reading that some scouts think Kearse is to tight hipped to play safety, they seem to think he is going to have to be converted to LB.
.....
With the team likely to keep two current QBs, Savage and Weeden being my hope (Hoyer most likely over Weeden). I don't see them having the reps to go to a 2nd QB in this draft. And as bad as the TEs have been on the team, grabbing 2 makes perfect sense.

Foster is likely gone, but Blue is not going anywhere and Grimes is likely to stick, **Edit add** also I forget about Akeem Hunt, he should make a jump and adds an element of speed this team needs **end edit** adding the 3rd RB to your draft maybe a reach. The Texans do need KR and PR guys and adding players that can be that and play a position is a bonus. I hope Izzo can turn our ST into a plus.
I have been mocking from the point of view that we do not resign Jones and Brooks, so I have been heavy OL in my drafts, and its a slim draft in that area, but there are a few real studs that the draftniks have in the 4th and 5th rounds. I wish I could add more picks in the 2nd and early 3rd, but that is hard to do while keeping your 1st round pick.
My question is how much do you sell the future draft for this draft?

I'm contemplating the "Perfect Draft" (within reason) prior to the Combine. Without pulling off any trades it would look like this:
#22 NT Jarran Reed
#52 TE Hunter Henry
#85 OG Joshua Garnett (not a 'sexy pick' but is a plug-and-play guy to fill the void at RG.
#120 RB Kenyan Drake (the best bargain RB in the draft)
#159 WR Aaron Burbridge
#166 DE Matt Ioannidis
#198 QB Kevin Hogan (If they are keeping Savage and Weeden, there's no pressure to start the season.)

Hard to do this before we know about free agent moves and the comp picks. Those will change the equation significantly.
I am already presuming Foster will be cut.

That is a major issue in doing these. In my drafts I am looking for OL and playmakers, what if we resign or sign the OL guys, then we are drafting backups. What if we sign a FA QB? then we are not looking at a guy in the 1st to 3rd rounds.
So I cannot wait until the FA signing start.

Any computer simulation mock draft is only as good as the database you are using. I chose the latest updated Draftgeek draft list and the results were too good to be true.
#22 WR Laquon Treadwell
#52 NT Jarran Reed
# 85 TE Hunter Henry
#120 QB Dak Prescott (I was nervous about the pick since Kevin Hogan was chosen earlier in the round)
#159 OG Christian Westerman - too good to pass up here. Hoped that Kenyan Drake would last for my next pick.
#166 RB CJ Prosise (220lbs feature back - I'll take it)
#198 ILB Nick Vigil
I then did a CBS Draftline database draft on Fanspeak and came away with this:
#22 QB Paxton Lynch
#52 WR Josh Doctson
#85 RB Kenneth Dixon
#120 DE Matt Ioannidis
#159 NT Javon Hargrave
#166 TE Henry Krieger-Coble
#198 OLB Victor Ochi

I was trying to to do Roy's no trade mock, but they offered me to much to drop 7 spots. Goff at 29, no way it happens IMO. But I take it.
I took two DTs, one will be a NT one a 5 tech DE. Not sure who will be what, but I can guess.
I also got the best TE in the draft in the 3rd round, I jumped. Crazy list to mock to.
Some of these are old names for me and some are new, I can't wait until we know the teams real needs after FA starts.

I took my own suggestion and made a pre-draft trade up in the first round to try to improve our QB options in the draft. As mentioned in another thread, the Eagles did not have a 2nd round pick so I offered our #1 (22) and #2 for Philly's #13 and was rejected. So I added our 5th (the 20th pick that round) and they took the bait. Later, I traded out of the 4th round to pick up a 5th and 6th from San Francisco, giving us a 1st, 3rd, two 5ths and 2 6ths.
Walter Football was the most recently updated so I used that one which had Carson Wentz ranked 10th on their big board. He was still there at #13.
13: R1P13 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE
85: R3P22 RB ALEX COLLINS ARKANSAS

166: R5P27 CB CYRUS JONES ALABAMA
198: R6P20 OT ALEX LEWIS NEBRASKA
210: R6P32 K ROBERTO AGUAYO FLORIDA STATE
All my guys after this seem to be folks with versatility and special teams potential other than Alex Lewis. Collins is a solid all-around back whose one major knock is ball security. Vannett disappeared with all the talent at OSU but CBS had him rated as the third-best TE who also can be used as a slot receiver or FB. Jones is a converted receiver who returns kicks and can pick off passes. Still raw as a corner though. Aguayo is clearly the top kicker on the board.
Alex Lewis is a guy with 2nd-round talent at LT but has a temper that needs to be controlled. He was sentenced to 45 days while at Colorado for beating a man unconscious and also had discipline issues at Nebraska after he transferred but he was also a team captain with the Huskers. He could be a cheap steal or a huge bust. In the 6th, that's worth a gamble.

It appears Fanspeak will allow you, as the Texans, to send our 1st, 2nd and our first 5th-rounder to Philadelphia for their 1st (13th overall) anytime you want to do it. I tried some other variations of the deal and it always refuses.
The strategy, at this point, has three prongs:
1. Trade up to #13 and hope Goff or Wentz falls to you. I've been able to make this work about 60% of the time. If it doesn't work, then you have to decide whether to trade back down or grab someone else that unexpectedly fell.
2. Stay put at #22 and take Lynch or Cook if they are available.
3. Take another player at #22 or trade down but ultimately, aim for the next group of Prescott and Hackenberg.
I prefer the idea of getting the best QB we can afford without giving up a future #1. Losing your second-rounder hurts but if the reward is Goff or Wentz, it is a good deal. Later, I traded out of the 4th round to San Francisco for an early 5th and a late 6th to give us 6 overall choices.

Williams is a value pick in the 5th. He was projected a third rounder who was out all last season with a foot injury but appeared at the Senior Bowl. I like backs who didn't get run to death in college and are undervalued because of it.
Kirkland is a massive man with experience at G and OT who can fill in at any of 4 positions along the line but needs refinement.
Norris is a 3-4 ILB who makes up for being a step slow with a quick first step and great ball-hunting instincts. How much longer will we have Cushing? McKinney fills one spot but we need someone else to challenge here.

I can see why we want to be aggressive about trading up for a Franchise QB. However, the only guy ready to step in and take over the team on day one is Goff, in my opinion. I like Wentz's upside, but would be scared to trade ao much to get him.
Roy P
02-27-2016, 06:41 PM
After watching Wentz's footwork today, I will have to say that I am impressed. He has made progress since Mobile. So, after 2nd thought, I would be ok with trading up to 13 for him. I wouldn't do that deal for Lynch though. After watching Wentz today, I doubt he drops to #13 so perhaps it is a moot point. :/

To be honest, when the pick came up for Williams, I had forgotten that I already had Collins. Not Sure what I would have grabbed instead of RB with that pick now.
And I also like the fact that I was able to keep all my picks for this draft. If Wentz turns out as expected, then two ones is worth it.
AFC South would have Luck, Bortles, Mariota, and then Wentz. Pretty solid potential top to bottom.

In this draft, I fully agree. We have to jump start the offense. So, the question becomes Would you rather trade a 1st, 2nd and 5th to Philly for #13 or trade a 1st and next year's 1st to Oakland for pick #14? The answer may be that Philly might take our QB at #13 or trade down with the Rams who might take our QB at #13.
It all may be for nothing if Goff and Wentz continue to impress but there's a long way to go.

Wentz seems to be the top-rated QB coming out of the combine. Yep easily the biggest player personnel move the Texans would have ever made to this point in time if this trade would come to pass.
But that is the question here isn't it - "Is Wentz the Guy" ?

I had heard conflicting reports that the 49ers were willing to trade down and that they were willing to trade Kaepernick (the Texans were mentioned as a suitor but apparently nobody bothered to ask the Texans first). So I tried using the offer of our 2016 #1 and 2017 #1 plus 2016 #2 to move to #7 to get Goff or Wentz. The problem was, in this sim, the Cowboys took Wentz so I could either take Lynch, take another position or trade down. I traded back down with Philly at #13 for a pair of thirds.
So I wound up with Lynch, Hooper and both Arkansas RBs but I'm out the following year's #1.

I wonder if Philly is so frustrated with Demarco Murray's attitude and contract that they'd trade out of their #1 for cheap just to dump him and his salary. I'd be inclined to give up our #1 and #2 (and maybe a future pick) if we could get the QB and Murray (RB), or if not Murray, sign Lamar Miller so we could use our other picks elsewhere. They should have cap money to do something like that this year.

While trying to mock the Super Bowl 50 Champion Denver Broncos draft at Fanspeak, I noticed they had extra choices beyond the 32nd pick in the round which I thought was a mistake. So I contacted Megan at Fanspeak and she said they had connections that have already projected the compensation picks and added those picks to their mock simulations. Which means, among other conclusions, that the Texans aren't getting any compensation picks this year.

With the bonus pick acquired in the trade, I was able to get Mr. Heisman as well as Lynch. Austin Johnson is a big DT that came from Bill OBrien U. who will help whenever Wilfork runs out of gas. Allen is a name I haven't looked at before but there was a big drop between him and the next best OL on the board. He has that C-G flexibility, a former wrestler who excels at line calls and short-space movement. On the downside, he's a bit small for the pros.

I have a feeling NFL teams do not think as highly of this QB crop as we do. It would not shock me to see Goff - or even Wentz - fall that far if say the Browns fall in love with Goff instead.

Would be nice if:
SF sticks with Kap
Rams sign RG3
NYJ re-signs Fitzmagic
But then, we're going to sign Osweiler and this will be all moot. 😒

I could see the Cardinals taking Dak Prescott in the 2nd round as Fisher's "Poor man's Steve McNair" - If that happens and we didn't have a QB, I would rather have Kevin Hogan than Christian Hackenberg....hell, Connor Cook and his "baggage" would be a better option than Hackenberg.

Now that free agency has shaken up the roster, I tried Fanspeak (3/8 board) for the first time without the need for a QB or RB early.
I honestly saw no reason not to trade down so I took a deal with Baltimore for their 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders for our first, leaving Houston with no 1st or 7th round picks but two in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th plus one in the sixth:
36: R2P5 OT GERMAIN IFEDI TEXAS A&M
52: R2P21 S VONN BELL OHIO STATE

85: R3P22 DT CHRIS JONES MISSISSIPPI STATE

Ifedi was the last of the early-round OTs available so I grabbed him while I could. Bell is the sort of safety that should stick for awhile. Henry was still around in the early third so i took him but I would have taken Hooper or Vannett if he wasn't there. Jones is a solid run-stuffer for the middle. Tuerk gives us a backup behind our new center and Howard a solid RB to add behind Miller. Forrest is a good complement in the middle while Addison is ultra-quick and can be used for kick returns. There's about 5 late-round QBs one could bring to camp and Coker is one of them. Say this about Alabama QBs, they aren't flashy but they find ways to win and so does Coker.

Here's an interesting one. I couldn't trade up or down in the first round. Paxton Lynch was there and I was tempted to take him but I don't want to have Osweiler start his Houston career with another QB controversy.

I added two impact LBs for the time we want to move on from Cushing and Clowney. Kelly has a chance to start as a rookie. Vannett is one of those flex-type TEs who can make use in various formations.
Cardale Jones??? Are you crazy?? Well, hear me out. He's a very raw talent but he dominated briefly and I would try to groom him as a "slash" player who could play RB, WR and throw passes from exotic formations while being the emergency QB. The dude is a load to bring down and I think he could be stashed on the practice squad while he learns.
Notice how almost all these guys are players on winning programs expected to win most of the time. I think they'd help fill out our roster in ways that one showcase player would not do.

This I think is under-appreciated. I would much rather take my chances with a Louis Nix than some goofy Casserly project from SE Indiana Tech. The guys from the big schools on balance get better coaching and practice and play against a much higher level of competition.
Of course watch Wentz and Lynch come out and perform far better than Goff and Cook.

Everybody wants another Ben Roethlisberger (Bowling Green) or Joe Flacco (Delaware). Where did Favre play college ball? Oh, yeah - Southern Mississippi.
Not poking a hole in your theory but I don't think I can automatically discredit a QB from Memphis or North Dakota St. simply because they aren't among the elite conferences. Only that the dice role is a little bit more against you if you are reaching for small-college players.

The rapist went to Miami of Ohio. I'm certainly not suggesting writing off small school guys, just saying that I prefer guys from big schools if all else is more or less equal. Better coaching, better competition, better facilities, better nutrition, more acclimation to being on a big stage, etc.

Flacco has basically played a good month of football in his 8 year NFL career. It was a well timed month, but even a QB starved franchise like ours shouldn't want another Joe Flacco.

I'm thinking Houston's best position is to trade down and get more second-day talent.
At this point, if I can get a 3-for-1 to trade down that includes a high 2nd, 3rd and 4th, that's better to me. Walter Football's boards are a bit whacked from the others so good talent is available late. Combining both of these led to a draft that is probably too good to be true. Note, I traded down one spot in the second for a fifth then used that pick as bait to move up on Day 3 when Alex Collins was still available.

I actually had my choice of OT Conklin or DE Bullard at 2/4 and went with the OT with an eye on dumping Brown or Newton in the near future. The QBs disappeared fast so I got Hackenberg when he was the last of the six left. Still, I added other guys I see mentioned in first-round mocks like Coleman and Kelly and still had room in the 4th for Collins and Vannett so the offense got a major upgrade. Unfortunately, I didn't help the D-line like I intended but we can hopefully re-sign Crick and the coaches are high on Covington from last year's draft who came on late in the season.

Bob, I agree with your thoughts on getting multiple picks, but even with multiple picks I would not use one on Hack. I am not against taking a flyer on a QB, just not that QB and not with your 2nd pick.
Also as you stated, that list is wack. Coleman in the 3rd?
Lastly I'm not sure I drop out of the 1st completely, and I'm also not a Conklin fan, he feels like a RT only guy to me. I could be wrong on that one. I would have gone with Bultard over Conk. But thats Chocolate and Vanilla. We each have our preferences.

Honestly, I think the Broncos, if they can't land Kaepernick or Fitzpatrick, almost have to land a competent QB in the first round to back up Sanchez. If so, they would be wrong to stand pat at #31 and hope Lynch falls to them. I could easily see the Broncos trading up with us and giving us #31 and #63. But I'd still fall into the upper second for a 2nd, 3rd and 4th if given a chance. I think we have so many holes to fill that owning 5 picks in the first two days is better than having three picks with one at #22. But that's just me.

Actually not a bad draft but I would have done more about the front 7 in the later rounds. That's where I shop for ILBs and safeties. They normally can stick as STers if they don't start.

I traded down again with the CBS board although I could have had Ezie Elliott, Lynch or an OT if I had stayed. I didn't get the great trade-down offers I wanted but I added a couple of 4ths that picked up some sliding talent.

15 picks, no way you can keep them all. So way to many trade downs. What becomes obvious is that DT
s are strong early, WR are strong in the middle, and the LBs coming out of the college ranks are not geared to the NFL game (danged spread offenses).

Short of trading their top pick for multiple mid-round picks, OT is a real possibility for the #22 given the uncertainty they have with Brown at LT this year and even if he's completely healthy he's getting to be a vet who's been around quite awhile now so it's time anyway to start grooming a replacement especially with us now having a really big investment at QB.

By all appearances, Hackenberg will be lucky to be drafted. Considering that and the fact we signed Osweiler, I wouldn't burn a pick on Hack until very late in the draft, if at all. In fact, I think the worst thing we could do is draft a QB (certainly one fairly early) this year and have all the fickle fans calling for him at the slightest hint of a struggle from Osweiler. Might be better off going with Savage, a vet or a late RD QB for this year and let Os have his day without rookie QB crap hanging over his shoulder.

I agree totally. Hack has not shown anything in two years. He might have been better served transferring somewhere that the offense better served him and showing he was not a one year wonder, freshman year no less. As of now, OB does not have to draft a "franchise" QB early, and that will hurt Hack with the Texans.
I cannot say how many mocks I have done where a solid QB is available and I have walked right past him to a position of higher need. If you want to a flyer on a QB late in the draft, a fifth or later, then I am good with that. I love Adams from Oregon as a UDFA, to give you a camp arm.
The biggest issue I see is reps. The team is going to want to get OS as many reps as possible in OTAs and camp, and they want to hold on to Hoyer to possibly trade to a team that gets hit with an injury for some kind of value. And you have to get him reps, along with Savage. He needs reps. So how can you develop a young guy with no reps.
Also I would not be surprised if they keep Hoyer as a veteran backup. It would give Os another QB to talk to on the sideline and in the room.

We could do far worse at backup QB and it's not like he's all that expensive. I think he'd be good for Os to have around. If they don't feel Savage has a future, then by all means draft a guy like Adams, Hogan or Driskell, etc. late in the draft. I'd rather a have Hoyer and a rookie prospect than hang onto Savage who has zero experience to help out and likely has no starting future.

Got additional picks with a trade down and a future pick.
This is a solid list in the 2nd 3rd 4th rounds.
Got my Brown insurance, future OT in Conklin, which gives me more versatility along the line, in that same vain I took Martin, and guy that can play OG or OC.
In the 2nd and 4th I took two DTs that can play either NT or 3-4 DE. Both are solid against the run. And showed well at the Senior Bowl in one on ones.
Grabbed both RBs from Arkansas, why not keep them pushing each other, one is a scat back, choppy runner and one is more of a power back. (Maybe time for Blue to move on).
If all Cyrus Jones did on this team was return punts than he would be a steal, but he also is money covering the slot receiver.
Listenbee is a speedster on the outside. And Cayleb Jones is big bodied guy with solid hands. Also has some baggage in his distant past.
Added size and speed to the roster, added guys that can make plays, added some meanness to the OL. Not a bad draft IMO.

If they intend to keep Hoyer, then they won't draft a QB but I would rather release or trade him and use the cap savings to bring back Jared Crick.
As far as Hackenberg, I'm simply responding to the mutual admiration
O'Brien and Hackenberg have for each other and the belief he will flourish here better than anywhere else.
You don't want someone who directly competes against Ossie this year but someone who can step in if he gets injured or falters. I don't see last year's starter as being the guy for that.
barrett

I don't believe Hoyer is on the roster by the start of OTAs. But the league is so QB starved that trying to get a low draft pick for him is smart right now.

Particularly because we know what that gets us, which is not much. Or certainly not enough. Hoyer is too expensive and potentially too distracting to be the backup I think. And barrett is right, he will find a place in the league and if the Texans can squeeze a 6th or a 7th for him and get his salary off the books then that would be a triumph. The offense will go as far as BO takes it. I have no idea where that will be but I don't see any real point in having a Hoyer over a Savage at backup if a Hoyer is that much more expensive.
I can't remember a year where the mocks were so all over the place with the top five or six quarterbacks. You guys have seen all the mocks, too, and many of you have played with the various lists for your own mocks. It's amazing how one perfectly credible mock will have QB X at 2 overall and another perfectly credible mock will have him at 12 or 22 or whatever. I really thought that by now we'd start to get some clarity and consensus among the mocks but we haven't. Hell, no one even knows what Tennessee's going to do. For me it's far more enjoyable than usual.

That won't happen. I wish it would but some people have Oregon's
BUCKNER as the best defensive player in the whole Draft. He's at least top 10 and sometimes top 5 in every mock I've seen.

Neither do I. But that's why you try multiple boards multiple times because "you never know". I don't think we can get 4-for-1 trade downs either but they are so hard to resist.

I was happy to trade down with KC and get extra picks. Darron Lee was off the board @ #19. Ryan Kelly was selected @ #26, but I got my favorite LT not named Tunsil. Adding Garnett upgrades the OL. I moved up to select the first TE off the board @ #76. Vannett went @ #81 and Higbee went @ #88. I missed out on WRs Doctson #30, Thomas #31, Shepard #36, Mitchell #120, Garrett #153. Drake can spell Lamar Miller and brings Return ability. Martinez is not fast, but he is a tackling machine. Powell will be a starting Safety in the league. Collins was a surprise and is one of My Guys, but not one of my Favorites. However, I couldn't pass on his talent in the 5th round. Collins and Ioannidis augment the D-Line. Kevin Hogan makes trading Hoyer an easy decision.

Look what fell out of the sky!!
Here's why you mock. Sometimes, the unexpected happens and you have to ask yourself "what will I do?". I used the Fanspeak board but, at 22, I was given several appealing choices:
Conklin, a legit LT to plug in when Brown gets injured or needs to be cut.
Ragland, the ILB who can be like Patrick Willis and would allow you to drop Cushing's contract after next year.
Kelly, the OC I have wanted all along and...
Carson Wentz!! - one of the top 2 QBs in the draft!
Ok, so we have Osweiler now and this would create controversy but we may never get a chance to draft a QB like this again. You gotta take him, right?
Well, I tried to trade down with Denver - no dice. Tried to trade down with the 49ers - not interested. Cleveland had taken Goff. Philly had no 2nds. The Jets would have been falling too far.
So after giving it much thought I went with value. I took Wentz. Fortunately, Kelly was still there in the second but I had to alter my draft because I did not have the trade chips I wanted to add more picks. I swapped my third with Baltimore for a pair of fourths and liked overall, what I had done:
22: R1P22 QB CARSON WENTZ NORTH DAKOTA STATE
52: R2P21 C RYAN KELLY ALABAMA

We'll have to shop for DE, WR and ILB among the UDFAs. Somehow, I don't think Rick Smith will face this dilemma.
Roy P

I would have taken Wentz too. There's only so many players who I would take over Paxton Lynch. Osweiler hasn't proven anything yet.
HPF Bob
04-03-2016, 10:19 AM
He's proven more than Wentz. But if the Texans drafted Wentz, I would make him #3 behind Weeden to start the year and let him know he's not ready and is getting trained for '17. Next year, we'll have a better feel for Osweiler and make it an open competition. In '18, we can trade either QB without a large cap hit and possibly for a big draft haul in return.
Roy P
04-03-2016, 12:22 PM
I understand the value of having the bird in hand and I believe that's the reason why we had to sign Oweiler. There's no way of knowing for sure that we could get one of these 'Potential Franchise QBs' in the draft. It's not my money, but it is awfully expensive to have a guy with very limited starts in the NFL. I'm having flashbacks of Matt Flynn. That being said, I hope that signing Brock doesn't preclude the team from drafting a QB if one falls in our laps.

Nick Vannett went @ #71(R3P8) right before Joshua Garnett. I think I got a bargain in Adams @ #127. I took Glasgow @ #159 when I was trying to decide between him and OT Joe Haeg and Connor McGovern. Hang went @ #160 and I took McGovern @ #166. Hindsight being 20/20 I should have taken Haeg @ #159 and then whoever was left @ #166 to play C since I already had Garnett on the roster. I was surprised that I was able to get Jarran Reed in the 2nd round. Reed and Sterling Shepard have 1st round grades on my draft board, so I was pleased to get them when I did while racking up extra picks. Garnett is my starting RG for the next 8 years. Correa provides insurance when Clowney gets injured and can rotate on passing downs. The prospect of Watt, Reed, and Hargrave is exciting to me. Promise is talented and has a ton of potential receiving out of the backfield. Prescott just needs to keep his nose clean and not be a distraction off the field. I doubt the Texans would draft him, but I've made it be known how I feel about this guy. Canady was a luxury I could afford with all the extra draft picks. At his size, he could potentially be a FS, and having a big CB is always a good thing to have in the tool box. Garrett and Mitchell are my favorite WRs that nobody is talking about and I want them on the roster. I grabbed Lasco for his speed and return ability. I realize that I have a lot of bodies from this draft, but that's less UDFAs I have to call.

I would have liked to have been able to get Bronson Kaufusi to play DE when he came off the board at #85 and NT Maliek Collins at # 74. Overall, I can't complain too much. Conklin and Kelly on the OL is amazing. Vannett is my favorite TE after really studying this group. Hargrove will play the NT. Got my 2 WRs in the 5th round. Arrowhead was the only board updated so I tried it. At #22, I could have selected Ragland (Kelly was gone) but the Patriots tempted me with two 2nds, a 3rd and a 6th. I took it but that was lower than I wanted to fall so I traded back up in the second and then traded down once more. I got some good players but I've liked some of my other drafts better.

Been out of town, but I'm back now. Another mock utilizing the CBS board. I traded out of the 1st round for two 2nd round picks. I was not sure that I would like the results, but I did. I wanted to give some props to Roy for making me take a look at a couple of the guys I took in this draft. Also my trade down was attempted in order to target a couple of them in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

Butler has been high on my list since I watched him at the Senior Bowl. Garnett has a mean streak and seems to fit the proto type guy that Mike Devlin likes to coach. I have not been targeting Garnett in some time, but Roy made a post recently that returned him to a target for me.
Having Hunter sitting there at 61 was surprising to me and I jumped, he has the potential to be the best TE the Texans have had since Owen Daniels was in his prime. Next I took my 2nd rated OC, a hole that is begging to be filled.
this gives me a OL of Brown, Allen, Martin, Garnett, Hopkins. Su'a-Filo either steps up and beats out one of the rookies or he backs up two positions (OC,OG) either way he moves on when his rookie deal expires.
Next pick was another one of Roys guys Fanaika, I have to agree with Roy, he looks like a young JJ. I'm not saying he has the upside of JJ, but no one knew JJ had that upside, and Fanaika is only a late 3rd round pick.
I was not sold on trading out of the 1st round, but I was impressed with the three 2nd rounders I got. All three have been discussed as possible 1st rounders this off season. And my two 3rd rounder I would not have been upset if I had drafted them in the 2nd. So five players in the top 100, I could get on board with that.

Unless a few stud players fall, trading seems like our best option. There are maybe five or so players I would still choose at #22 but the gift of having additional 2nds and 3rds generally outweigh them. I'd be okay with a draft like this.

I tried the Fanspeak board (4/5) and it was Trade-a-Palooza. The Bengals wanted me to trade down to #24, then the Seahawks wanted me to trade down to #26 then the Panthers wanted me to trade down to #30, picking up extra selections along the way which I then used to trade up with the Rams in Round 2 and trade up with the Saints in Round 3. Finally, I traded down one spot in the 3rd with Philadelphia to pocket an extra sixth. In the end, I got everything covered except a DE to replace Crick.

I traded out of the first round and still got my guy Ryan Kelly! I was surprised to see Spriggs still sitting there at #74. He is going to take time to develop, but he could potentially become a starting LT in the NFL, so I felt there was value here with his athleticism. Bronson Kaufusi is slowly becoming one of my favorite players in this draft. He is older due to his Mission, but I like what I see and if he and Nassib are unavailable, I don't know who to get to fill in for Crick that I will be happy about. Javon Hargrave is a guy who I consistently draft. I selected 2 TEs and am pleased to do so when it's Vannett and Hooper. Von Bell is a guy I've seen projected as a 2nd rounder and I have a hard time buying that. However, if available at #108....I've decided to add him to My Guys. I got Malcolm Mitchell again. Feel really good about adding Kelly, Spriggs, and Glasgow to the OL group. Nick Vigil is going to be a good/solid NFL ILB and I'm preparing for the day when Cushing is no longer a Texan. Keyarris Garrett always shows up on my draft classes. Kevin Hogan came off the board @ #185 and with so many picks from trading down, I decided to get a game manager who lacks size, but makes up for it with intelligence and accuracy. Maybe I watched too many USC games, but I like this kid as a solid back-up who is much cheaper than Hoyer. I wanted a RB and Tre Madden was the guy with size/speed (6'0" 220lbs/7.09-Cone and 4.27-Shuttle) and still on the board (again, I watched some USC games). Tavon Young is only 5' 9 1/8" 183lbs, but I think he could play the slot. He has very good quickness (6.80-Cone and 3.93-Shuttle.

Wow! This was my hardest MOCK Draft to date. I constantly looked at my board and tried to determine who I should take because I had players ranked closely and wondered who might fall to the next round or if I might trade down and still be able to make selections of MY Guys.

I wanted extra picks so I took a leap of faith that I would get a good player and was pleased to have Conklin sitting there for me. Then I struggled to determine who I would take next, luckily I snagged Kaufusi, Garnett, and Collins with my next 3 selections. I needed a TE so moved Higbee up my board over Malcolm Mitchell and luckily was still able to get him later. When I got to pick #125 I contemplated taking Jordan Howard, but since I had Prosise ranked higher, I stuck to my board. All the good S prospects were gone except for TJ Green so I was forced to take him and hoped to get my WR, which I did with the next pick. At #166 I could have gone for another need position, but took Matt Ioannidis anyway because he was the BPA with a 3rd round grade in the 5th round. Lastly, I selected Dadi Nicolas to be a pass-rushing specialist.
I highly recommend to anyone to utilize the DraftTek database. It was definitely challenging and close to what I believe will be an actual draft class grade.

Using the Draftek board and only one trade down, I was able to draft a board I'd be thrilled to have although several of these I expect to be selected earlier than where I have them. Realistic? Jared Goff wasn't taken til the second round. That's how realistic this was. Still, we never know how these things unfold.

Decker can back up for a year but, eventually, replace Duane Brown. Kelly will anchor the center position for the next 10 years. Jones is a DT who is flexible enough to be a 3-4 DE. Hooper is the second-best TE according to most boards. Killebrew is a strong safety who hits like a LB. Prosise is not my ideal back but he only has to fit behind Miller and Blue. Norris a good ILB and Garrett a value addition as others here have pointed out. Only eight picks feels rather limiting after getting all these trade-down drafts but I like what this group brings to table. I have my doubts Kelly reaches #52 and I can see all the others being drafted higher than they are here but not outrageously so.

As a Colts fan I hope Indy selects Ryan Kelly, but I hope that they don't trade their 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th round picks to do so. I also hope that they would select Jack Conklin at #18 and not Cody Whitehair. But that's another discussion.

I attempted to see how many trade downs I could do and feel comfortable about doing it. This is pretty much my max and believe it or not, I did decline a few trade scenarios. I kind of cheated seeing the "BPA" list on the side of the screen so I knew that I could attempt to take a guy later that I have ranked highest. I.E. I drafted Sterling Shepard and Josh Garnett because they were getting close on the list and I was able to wait on my personal BPA at the time Kaufusi. I did the same when I selected Jerrell Adams over Malcolm Mitchell. If I had been smart, I might have attempted to trade back up for players like Maliek Collins (#79) and Nick Vannett (#94). Correa was my BPA at #122. I took Haeg to complete my O-Line of Kelly, Garnett, and Haeg. I love Promise as my 3rd down back and because I had so many picks I took a flyer on Jonathan Williams. I always seem to take Keyarris and Hogan was my backup QB selection. Having extra picks I selected a pass-rush specialist in Dadi Nicolas. I have a H-Back in Dan Vitale. Then just to have a QB on the practice squad I grabbed Kessler.

I was unable to trade down for "Value" and came away with these picks. Conklin gives me flexibility with the OL. Shepard and Mitchell are nice additions to the WRs. Collins gives me push up the middle. Davis is a big hitter who can cover and I really was surprised to see him available in the 4th. Tapper is a project at OLB, but I like his measurables. Canady was was simply the BPA. Bummed I couldn't come away with at least one TE and I would need to trade down and get an extra pick to find one for the roster.

4/12 CBS board:
A bit strange. With the big trade, I sense the OTs may drop a little bit which might allow Conklin or Decker to fall to us. The question will be whether now is the time to upgrade the OT position and prepare for Duane Brown to be next spring's big cap casualty. With some of the other options (Ragland, Elliott, Lynch, Reed), I'm becoming bigger on taking the good LTs while you can.
I traded down in the second for a lower 2nd and a 3rd then traded the lower 2nd for a 3rd and a 5th. I missed out on some of the guys I wanted but still had a decent draft, not a dazzler.

Roy, I could be happy with this except I don't see a need for two TEs in this draft. Select a decent RB at 4/25 like a Kenyan Drake or Paul Perkins who can be your third-down option. Then you can use that 6th rounder on a CB or S to add depth there.
Roy P

I would have taken Tyvus Powell, except I figured Jerell Adams would be more impactful on the roster. The Patriots looked good with Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez on the field together. I also felt like I need at least one of them to pan out and I double my chances in case one of them is a bust.

I think CJ is salvageable so he can be paired with Hooper or Higbee or whomever. Hey, we do so many of these mocks that we don't explain some of our thinking. In general, I just take one player per position based on the severity of need and the scarcity of good options. Sometimes, what you want just isn't there and it changes the equation.
In general, my draft plan falls this way:
1) Best LT or DE/DT that could fit our scheme.
2) Ryan Kelly or Nick Martin for center.
3) One of a few top guards, particularly if the centers aren't there.
4) A TE that creates mismatches due to height or speed.
5) Increasing depth at RB and/or WR.
6) A strong safety that tackles well.
7) Better depth at ILB.
8) A second D-lineman.
But the exact order is fluid based on which positions are disappearing. Sometimes I pick a player in the 3rd because he's the one good guy at that position then take a guy in the 4th I really think is a better player but there were alternative options if he fell off the board.
All I know for sure is that the Texans will prioritize entirely differently than I would.

I agree with you on the positions of need and what I would like to add. However, I also have my draft board that is fluid based upon where/when players are being selected. I have some of my favorites and then 'fall-back' players in case I don't get my first guy early in the draft. I have consistently selected certain players over and over again (probably because I have them ranked too highly) such as Ryan Kelly, Joshua Garnett, Maliek Collins, Bronson Kaufusi, Malcolm Mitchell, and Keyarris Garrett. So, I'm twerking my board and ranking players lower than I grade them to see if I can still get them at a lower draft slot. This gives me better opportunities to trade down, get an extra pick or two, and still get My guys. I really like what happens in the mock drafts starting around picks #70 Rd3 Pick 7 all the way through pick #165 Rd5 Pick 26 and would like to get as many selections in this 'sweet spot' of the draft to get real value.

I declined a trade down opportunity to stay at #22 and select Conklin. Then was pleasantly surprised to see Kelly still available @ #52, so once again declined a trade down. I had expected to take the best WR available at #52 and got nervous that Sterling Shepard would not make it down to me, so I decided he was worth moving up for. Hargrove is one of the best NT prospects in this class in my opinion and I was very happy with my first 4 picks. I looked at Canady, Brandon Williams, Jonathan Jones and Anthony Brown as a CB and Tyvis Powell and KJ Dillon at S at #159. Having missed out on Vannett, Hooper, Henry, and Adams at TE, I grabbed Sandland and hope he develops.

I grabbed a RT/LT backup at #22 in Taylor Decker. Then moved up to select a WR I believe is a 1st round talent in the 2nd round. Then selected the best TE still on the board in the 4th. Sean Davis is a bottom of the 2nd round talent to me and I had to take him in the 5th. Cowser was my BPA in the 5th and I can use him if Clowney gets hurt again. Dahl did not do much run blocking in college, but he impresses me with his athleticism and when I saw him play he held his own.

Westerman can play G and I would try him at C. Jonathan Williams is a big back that keeps Miller fresh and can be the short-yardage specialist keeping Watt on Defense.

There were several good choices at #22 so I looked to trade down and made a deal with Denver, moving to #31 and adding their 3rd rounder. Taylor Decker was still there at #31 so the gamble paid off. It paid off double when Vernon Butler was still there in the second round. My centers were disappearing so I reached for Boehm in the fourth yet was pleased that Killebrew was still available in the fifth:

After trading down and getting my WR in the first, I traded down in the 2nd and still got my DE Kaufusi to replace Crick while getting an extra 4th round pick (C.J. Prosise). I traded 3/31 that I got from Denver in my first trade to Buffalo and turned it into NT Hargrave, TE Adams, QB Hogan. So essentially I traded Conklin for Doctson, Hargrave, Adams, and Hogan. My hardest decision was choosing who to pick first out of Westerman, Prosise, Adams, and Killebrew. Westerman was the only player I have given a 2nd round grade so I went with him to potentially play C. All the TEs were gone except for Adams and all the Ss were gone except for Killebrew and I needed a TE more than S. Potentially, I could have passed on Prosise and went after Kenyan Drake later, but I am a big fan of Prosise. Luckily, I was able to get all of them with my cluster of picks that I was able to collect in trades. I've mentioned my reasons for the top 4 guys that I constantly target. The only issue I have with this draft class is that I didn't get a T.

I was surprised Hackenberg fell all the way to the 4th round but that makes him a good value and less of a "threat" to Osweiler. I've been late to the Kaufusi bandwagon but he was another that was too good to pass up in the 4th. Getting another G, OT or SS will just have to wait but the Texans can add them in other ways.

I'm also late to the Kaufusi bandwagon....but now I'm a believer. I'm willing to spend a2nd round pick on this guy. I've been seeing him and DT Maliek Collins drafted later in the draft than I feel they are worth. Will be interesting to see where they are selected.

It's been a while since I posted, but this is honestly my favorite time to come here. I've been following this thread to see the draft trends and I have a couple guys I really like, but every time I draft on fanspeak, I feel there's a conspiracy that's keeps me from getting them. That and they've moved up quite a bit this month. The two players a REALLY like are Austin Johnson and Carl Nassib, both from Penn State, along with a shit ton of other very good players in this draft, but these two guys remind me a lot of Bronson Kaufusi and Maliek Collins.
That being said, I did a draft on FS using their board and this is what I came up with, with only two trades.

I honestly feel that since this is such a deep draft, it would be foolish not to trade down and grab as many picks as we can. I'm big on safties this year again, with that said I felt Kearse and Killebrew are too similar. Adolphus is my consolation prize if Nassib and Johnson are gone. Butler is a beast in the middle, but feel RJ Reader is not that bad of a replacement, why I got both I don't know, I don't usually do that. I also think BJ Goodson is a not very poor mans Reggie Ragland, just my 2 cents. I think Burbridge is a steal late in the draft! I like P. Barber late in the draft because I think we need a thumper for short/goal line yardage, as Blue simply proved too often he wasn't capable. Jaylon Smith in the 4th round was a no brainer to me.

I have to admit that I feel like Kaufusi and Nassib are the same type of players. I love Bronson more, but see Nassib being drafted higher. I have this problem with many players. I soured on Killebrew and Kearse after the 40 yard dash was run at the Combine. Yet, Killebrew came back on my radar after his pro day 3-Cone and Shuttle times. So Brew is back on my board. I like Vannett more than Henry and Hooper, but they are ranked higher due to the production in the passing game. Then there's Sandland and Breunacker who are impressive, but small school guys who may be later in the draft not to mention Jerrell Adams as a pass catcher. I like Kenneth Dixon more than Henry or Booker or Collins or Howard, but wonder if he lasts until the 3rd round. I love Maliek Collins and Vernon Hargraves, but they are ranked behind Chris Jones and Vernon Butler. I think Sterling Shepard is awesome and Malcolm Mitchell is a poor man's version who can be selected later. I liked Blake Martinez and Nick Vigil, but wonder if the Texans take a ILB. Plenty of conundrums to sort through.
Josh Doctson is the best WR in this draft. I'm worried about Reader's commitment to football. Adolphus Washington scares me as a bust that played well on a loaded defensive squad. I love Jaylon Smith as a person and a player, but don't know enough about his injury. I liked Burbridge but wonder if he translates to the NFL.

Jaylon Smith is out for 2016 and may not be able to resume his career at all if you listen to some. I wouldn't pick him earlier than the 5th.
Nassib is intriguing because his bio reminds me of J.J. Watt. Tall, swats passes and has not been a DE for very long. But he's still very raw and you can't be sure he'll refine his game. He's almost never available where I'm drafting. Austin Johnson projects as a true DT which is why I rate him slightly below Chris Jones for us. Jones I think can be an effective DE for a few years before he fills out and plays NT.
I'd love to get Reggie Ragland and phase out Cushing and his big salary but ILBs are going the way of fullbacks in this game so I'm leaning towards getting Conklin or Decker if they fall that far so we can phase out Duane Brown and his salary.

I feel Nassib and Kaufusi are knock-off versions of JJ Watt. Which is why I like them. JJ is obviously a one-of-a-kind player.
Austin Johnson has short arms. Which detracts me from his stock as well as slow agility scores.
The ILB position, if not filled with a Freak like Darron Lee, I feel could be addressed with a player like Nick Vigil, Blake Martinez, or Joshua Perry. Thinking outside the box, maybe Kamalei Correa.
If Conklin is there at #22, I would have a hard time passing on him.

I got my desire in the first round, taking Jack Conklin but my trade down in the second blew up when the nine spot drop gobbled up everyone I was hoping to take at #31. The best guy left was SS Vonn Bell. Detroit offered a 4-for-1 trade down in the third that I couldn't say no too. It left me with 3 4ths, 4 5ths and 2 6ths. When I saw two good DT left to start the 5th round, I moved up to get one which turned out to be Ioannidis.
You'll notice I've taken Rashard Higgins several times for the WR. Part of it is the groupings of WR and he, like Austin Hooper, just shows up quite a bit where I want to pick his position. But Higgins is a receiver who is said to be not the fastest or the best pair of hands but he is fantastic at finding dead spots in coverage and getting open, much like Wayne Chrebet. He was very productive at CSU just because he was always getting open.
Aguayo is one of those PK who is so accurate that he gets bored with putting them through the uprights and practices banking them off the uprights. Most rookie PKs seem to have a jinx when they join the NFL (Randy Bullock, for example) but Aguayo is one of those I think is so above the rest that he won't have that problem and easily replace Nick Novak.

There was Nick Martin, Joshua Garnett, Chris Jones, Austin Johnson and a couple others. I thought the odds favored at least one of them sneaking through and none did.

Picks #27-#94 is a sweet spot to have picks. I get so nervous that I am going to pick a guy early and another guy will not fall to my next pick. When I'm on the fence between two players I go with the Supply & Demand strategy. My first 5 picks I drafted because they offered something that nobody else was going to be able to provide at their position. I might have Kaufusi ranked too highly, but I do NOT want to miss out on him. Darron Lee went #13 to Miami, Conklin went #15 to Tennessee and Doctson went #21 to Washington. So I went down to #27 and still got Ryan Kelly.I have Kelly and Kaufusi ranked as 1st round talents. I feel like I really hit the trifecta getting Garnett, Vannett, and Collins right in a row, since I give them 2nd round grades.
I have Prosise, Killebrew, and Malcolm Mitchell graded as 3rd round talents.
I drafted my Safety Killebrew at #150 and tried to move up for either Nick Vigil or James Cowser. But they were selected #154/#155. I went ahead and took Blake Martinez since I had already had a team agree to the trade. After I grabbed Killebrew. So at #156, both of my 'targets' had been taken just prior to my choice.

I noticed, too that Keenan Reynolds and Demarcus Ayers were available as UDFAs.
Boehringer may just be one of those training camp novelty acts but the Teutonic Plague is 6-4 with 4.4 speed and should be a nightmare to cover if his hands are good enough for the NFL. Plus, he won't know what sort of smack the DBs are dishing on him so he can't be taunted.
