Link says Luck's status for TNF is uncertain, which is definitely different than what was reported this weekend in that they were sitting Luck to give him a week of rest so he could play TNF on a short week.

Meanwhile Shorts 3.0 is out indefinitely and Kareem has a concussion. Maybe they'll finally let the third rounder they traded up to get put on a uniform.

Interesting, especially since they only carry 2 QB's and cut their #2 from last week. I'd guess we'll see Luck, but I guess they could always resign the guy on Wednesday if Luck's prognosis doesn't look so grand. Not like there's a line for his services.
Our WR group is going to be VERY young come Thursday, assuming they won't be able to pick a guy up off the street to be active for a short weeks game.

No problem. I usually wait till Wednesday when the TV maps come out to add my two cents but anytime anyone wants to start the discussion is fine by me....

I'm surprised to hear Mallett would start. I'm yo-yoing between Hoyer and Mallett. Do I want the guy with no zip on his fastball or the guy with no on aim his fastball?

They're both incredibly flawed. Not sure either can solely win or lose a game. If the balance of the team doesn't improve we're screwed either way and coming into a draft with just a couple of top tier QB'S.

Based on players currently rostered, whomever plays QB is moot if this team is down 21-0 barely into the 2nd quarter like they were against the Falcons. This is simply not a high-powered offense.
Shifting away from the QB convo momentarily, the Texans are likely to be missing both Shorts and Washington, which should mean that Strong is active on Thursday.
I think this team really needs Strong to step up in a big way, and not just because these others are hurt. The Texans need a big WR who isn't going to be bumped around. For as great a prospect Hop is, and I like his hands a ton, he isn't the kind of receiver who can impose his will on the field. Hop needs a bigger guy like Strong. He kinda had that in Angry Dre last year (that is, when Andre was interested in playing/putting forth effort in his final season with the Texans).
Ugh, that was hard to type.
Bottom line, I hope Strong emerges from the doghouse and BOB/Godsey get him involved early in the gameplan. I like Mumph ok - he hasn't quite achieved Keyshawn Martin-level disgust from me yet - and Chandler Worthy is not yet worthy of being active, but the team took Strong earlier because he is the bigger, better WR prospect. He is the one the team needs to replace Andre in the offense. For Strong's sake, hopefully he takes over Washington's spot in this game with some authority.
I thought Mumphrey was one of the few bright spots yesterday.... IIRC, he made a difficult catch on 3rd down to get the 1st down and then he caught a pass over the middle and punished the DB that came to tackle him.... I was glad to see that since the Falcon DB's were practically doing the prison thing to our wide receivers and not getting called for it....
Video: Texans vs. Colts preview (http://www.sportsbookreview.com/video/nfl-picks-colts-vs-texans-preview-week-5-thursday-night-football-v-29067/)
Video summary: Luck will probably play, Colts probably favored by about 4, Texans might be good value....
I always find it interesting to hear the objective opinions of non-fans, i.e. outsiders not involved in the media....
------------------------------------------
Texans win and they are tied for 1st.
If the Texans lose this one, it's gonna be a long year... History shows that a team can overcome an early season blowout (Atlanta), turn it around and end up having a good year but I'm not sure the Texans can do this... Take the seemingly talented defense - has the coaching staff turned them into dysfunctional glob of poo? Have they had too much put on their plate or been given too much to process (i.e. KJ at Safety)? I dunno, but the time to get it together would be right now.....

Were we better off with Kirpatrick ? And the defense, if its also regressed why ? Don't we have basically the same defensive personnel this year as we had in 2014 ?

I remember the hit Mumphrey took and the flag came out. He gave out more than he got and I said to those around me, given the way the refs were killing us "What do you bet they'll flag us for hitting the defenseless defender?" Instead, they just picked up the flag.
This was the same crew that worked the Chiefs game where we similarly screwed on seemingly every call. We aren't a good enough team to win when two teams are against us. Granted, they made a lot of bad plays all on their very own but it seemed every good play was greeted with some ticky tack foul to negate the results,
That's why I say if the NFL were serious about punishing the Patriots, all they have to do is assign the same crew that works the Texans games and negates every positive play. Watch every catch by Gronk negated by some holding or hand-to-the-face bs. That'll fix them.

Last year the Texans led the league with 34 takeaways. So far this year they're tied for last place with two. Fewer takeaways means fewer short fields for an offense that needs all the help that it can get.
Not sure to what the big difference should be attributed. From a personnel standpoint, Pickett, Powe, Reed, Mohamed, Swearinger, K. Lewis, and Manning are gone and Wilfork, Covington, Clowney, McKinney, Demps, Moore, and K. Johnson have been added.

INDIANAPOLIS COLTS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

Andrew Luck officially questionable for Thursday's game, along with Anderson, Davis, Hasselbeck, Adams. Jerrell Freeman ruled out.
#Texans OUT Thu vs Colts: Demps, Dent, Grimes, Shorts, Washington.
QUEST: Ballentine, Mercilus, Polk
The 2-2 Indianapolis Colts pay a visit to NRG stadium Thursday night to take on the 1-3 Texans in an AFC South matchup. The Colts defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday 16-13 in overtime at home while an injured Andrew Luck sat the bench.
The Texans most recently lost 48-21 to the Atlanta Falcons in a road game.

Maybe our safeties contributed more than we realized last year. Or our ILB and CB just facing different competition. Still early i guess.
Probably our QB being sacked more than last year as well.
So takeways and sacks are two big indicators of success or failure.

We know we can't beat the Colts in Indy no matter who they play at QB, but can we beat them at our place if they don't have Luck ? If we go against a non-Luck QB tonight and lose, this season is definitely down the tubes.
I'm just hoping Mallet calms down a bit. I have a feeling OB's patience is wearing thin, and the kids about to get the hook. Can't say I blame him, but I really wanted him to turn out decent.
Whether or not Luck plays doesn't really concern me for this week. He's not 100%, so his "magic" will be limited. We'd likely beat ourselves before he'd beat us.
What a mess this will be if they choke....

Maybe the Colts can get Gary Hogeboom or Art Schlichter.
Whoever the Colts start, I want to see them in a Watt-Clowney sandwich during the first quarter, even if it's after the whistle. Their OL is supposedly a wreck and if we apply QB pressure early, they will have to account for it the rest of the night.
Say, if the Texans win, don't they leapfrog into first in their division? The AFC Suck Division?

16. Houston Texans (5th)
Pass blocking rank: 9th
Run blocking rank: 24th
Penalties ranks: 2nd
Stud: If his name isn’t already in the conversation, the start to 2015 proves Brandon Brooks (+5.7) needs to be regarded as one of the best guards in the game.
Dud: Switching between guard and tackle hasn’t helped, but Derek Newton (-10.9) has reverted to his 2013 level of play, rather than following up on his strong 2014 contract year.
Summary: Getting Duane Brown back will prove big, because without him and center Chris Myers, the line looked very unlike the one that finished in the top 5 last year. Still, there are plenty of question marks as they break in new talent.
======================
19. Indianapolis Colts (17th)
Pass blocking rank: 18th
Run blocking rank: 16th
Penalties rank: 21st
Stud: Second-year starter Jack Mewhort (+2.4) has played well, whether at guard or tackle. That’s a valuable trait to have.
Dud: One of the most dominating guards in the run game in his prime, it’s a little sad to see Todd Herremans (-9.1) struggling so much in that regard right now.
Summary: The interior has struggled to find the right combination as they’ve coped with injuries. The tackles haven’t played up to their capability (in the case of Anthony Castonzo, at least). So, while it hasn’t been bad, they haven’t continued on from the progress of 2014, and their struggles, as a result, have been highlighted by the sluggish start to the year for Andrew Luck.
=====================
Interesting that the rankings have the entire AFC Suck Division (tm) all in a row. 16. Houston, 17. Tennessee, 18. Jackassville 19. Indy

I want to see RAC use JJ and Clowney on the same side more often and overload the protection. Splitting them on opposite sides to meet at the QB seems to be doing the opposing offense a favor.

I've seen that. I specifically asked for JJ because Clowney is so valuable outside against the run and because JJ is more explosive out of a three-point stance which is what I would like to see.

No matter how great it appears, a LOSER will always shows his true colors...
If you weren't careful you may have almost thought that Hoyer was something he wasn't. You would have been calling for Mallets head...until Hoyer showed you who he really was...a Mirage

That is an embarrassing loss on so many levels.
Our team was totally flat out of the gates again. How do you come out flat for a Night game at home. Of course we came out flat in week 1.
Our QBs are awful. We got a fortunate hail mary at the half and otherwise scored 1 TD all night. Hoyer threw one of the dumber INTs I've ever seen to end the game, and he was clearly the better QB.
We couldn't run the ball against a defense that can't stop the run.
The refs were terrible, but it still doesn't account for all of the penalty issues. Hopkins had an especially dumb one late.
And above all of that, our defense got run off the field by a team with a 40 year old QB and no running game. I'm tempted to say we made Hasselback look 30 but the truth is he was never very good when he was 30. Of course he had a clean jersey at the end of the game, so that makes playing QB pretty easy. JJ was invisible all game unless you count all the run game holes he opened up by jumping around blockers. Our whole defensive backfield was awful. And for the 2nd week in a row we looked gutless when it came to tackling.
This team is in the worst division in football and is already dead in the water in week 5.

Yep, this team still has the losing stinch of the Kubiak era. We need to just gut the team and start over. Remove every player from that regime (including the GM). We settled this offseason for resigning scrubs...and felt good about it. As bad as it is to say this, but JJ is being given too much leeway. DCs are scheming him perfectly. He has got to become more fundamentally sound.

Here's what I think. I think that most people in the NFL are morons. That includes players, coaches, owners, all of them. I think that every now and then a guys like BOB comes along and he makes people think he's not a moron. Hell, he went to Brown. Look, I went to a school like that and most of the football guys were morons. Maybe a little smarter than the average moron, but they were not bright.
A guy like Belichick who is pretty bright shows up and comparatively speaking he seems like a genius. Pair him with another guy who is pretty bright and see that he's a quarterback and you have a nearly unbeatable combination. It really doesn't take much. You just have to find someone who is not an idiot to run the show.
No one in a position of authority in the Texans organization is intelligent. The owner isn't very bright. I don't care how much money he has. Everyone here knows he's not very smart. But the irony is, that shouldn't matter. Hire a smart GM and hire a smart coach and you're on your way. (How do you recognize a smart guy if you're a dumbass? I don't know. That is a puzzler.)
So as long as BOB is the head coach and he puts guys like RAC and Godsey in charge of their respective halves of the team the Texans will continue to lose, at home, on national television, to bad, bad, bad teams led by quarterbacks who are in the same decade of life that I am. The Colts are not good. I seriously doubt that they will win the division no matter how quickly Luck comes back. I have watched all their games. They are bad. The Texans never really threatened them today.
BOB should be fired today if only for having scolded Texans fans saying that they should be proud of these two quarterbacks he's personally brought in.
As I said earlier, this is as bad a Texans team as I have ever seen. That is absolutely crazy. The Texans are going to get spanked in Jacksonville.

Hey, don't fret... Maybe Hasselbeck will be available next offseason and we can upgrade at QB.

Seven wins could win this stupid division, and the Texans appear to be lucky if they figure out how to win even four this season. This is just a low talent, undisciplined team.
The LBs are terrible. The safeties are terrible. The pass rush over-pursues. And that's just the defense, which actually isn't horrible.
The play-calling is unimaginitive. The 3rd-and-long draw is doing the defense a favor in 21st century football. This team is miserable executing the screen play (on both sides of the ball). I'm really not sure the forward pass should ever be needed to beat the Colts this season, but hey, the Texans have gunslingers Houston should be proud of back there so let 'er fly.
I want to like O'Brien. But if the 1-3 start wasn't on him before, this loss is all on him. Clean out Rick Smith now, before we get any deeper into the college season so the new guy can ensure his college scouts are in place. Do what it takes to get the right QB in the offseason, whatever it costs.

Yeah, quoting myself from earlier in this thread...
I think this team really needs Strong to step up in a big way, and not just because these others are hurt. The Texans need a big WR who isn't going to be bumped around. For as great a prospect Hop is, and I like his hands a ton, he isn't the kind of receiver who can impose his will on the field. Hop needs a bigger guy like Strong. ...
So first game active and Strong responds with not one, but two touchdowns. So glad this coaching staff knows what the hell they're doing. They probably still can't wait for Washington to get back on the field so they can go back to kicking Strong to the curb again.

Sad face emoji from me.
Bob McSenile, Cal McSenile, and Smith were standing on the sideline, per usual, thru the first quarter or so of the game again tonight. Witnessing firsthand, from sea level, the Texans fart their way to another inexplicable multiple score deficit in the opening minutes. Just how impressive a shitshine is Smith putting on these two to be able to keep standing there with them?
Would love for Bob to just lean over to Smith, whisper in his ear, 'Straight to the parking lot tonight, Rick. We'll FedEx your personals.'

I'm at the point where I wish McSenile would just pass control to McSenile Jr. and let us see if things change. Maybe McSenile Jr has the nuts to make changes but just can't because daddy's a doofus and doesn't listen.

Was just looking at NFL team statistics and see Texans look pretty good. Fifth overall on offense and eleventh overall on defense.
So, maybe things will get better over next 11 games.
