View Full Version : Official Texans @ Titans Game Thread, 10/26/2014
The 3-4 Texans travel to Nashville this Sunday to take on the 2-5 Titans in an early game. The Texans are coming off a 30-23 road loss to the Steelers on MNF while the Titans are coming off a 19-17 road loss to the Redskins. In the Titans last three games, they have said road loss to the Redskins by 2, home win by 2 over the Jags and home loss to the Browns by 1. Goes without saying the Texans could use a W right about now. Will Jadeveon Clowney make his return this week?

Watt is hell on rookie QBs. If we can serve up Watt and Clowney at Mettenberger, he'll become cheeseburger without relish or mustard.

Yeppers. Being an LSU guy, I've seen a ton of Metz. Schaub would lap him in the 40. He's got a cannon though, and if they don't get the rush the deep ball will sting.

Why is Fox and not CBS carrying an AFC game with two AFC teams ?

On the news this morning that Brian Cushings knee is acting up and he will rest atleast this game. Of course we were all observing this problem.

Why is Fox and not CBS carrying an AFC game with two AFC teams ?
From the Chron last week:
The Texans game at the Titans on Sunday, Oct. 26, will air on Fox stations, including KRIV (Channel 26), as part of the league’s new “cross-flexing” scheduling system.
The Houston-Tennessee game (noon kickoff) normally would air on CBS stations, including KHOU (Channel 11), but the league moved it to Fox while also moving the Seahawks-Panthers game, which normally air on Fox, to CBS.
This is the first year the NFL has allowed cross-flexing for Sunday afternoon games. The policy is designed, the league said, to ensure larger audiences for more attractive games — in this case, Seattle against Carolina, both of which are 3-2 this season.
The new policy began last week with New England-Buffalo being moved to Fox from CBS. Later this season, the Redskins-49ers game on Nov. 23 will air on CBS, and the Bears-Lions game on Thanksgiving Day will air on CBS.

Clowney didn't make much of an impact but that will change. Mohamed stepped up in Cushing's absence. It was pretty obvious what the gameplan was with Mettenberger - force into throwing then make him hurry his throws. Worked for most of the game until the Texans turned more into Prevent mode.
Foster chewed up clock and yards and Blue gave him good breathers when needed. It's no surprise that when the Texans win, it's usually because Foster had a good game.
Kick return units - UGH. They let TEN get a FG off that first long punt return. K-Mart misplayed a punt that rolled for another 20-30 yards needlessly.
Why did we not get one of the backups in at QB when we had the game in hand? Is O'Brien waiting until we lose badly to give them reps?
There was a Xavier Su'a-Filo sighting at LG for a good part of the first half but he got beat a couple of times and we went back to Ben Jones in the second half.
Overall, still looking at 6-7 wins on the year.
Early line has the Eagles as a 1 to 2.5 pt favorite (http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_odds.shtml) over the Texans.... So, given the 3 pts for home field, this line would be Eagles by 7 to 8.5 if the game were held in Philly. IMO, sounds about right....

Even though we still have the Titans at home and the Jags twice? We have a pathetically easy schedule this year. It is a true shame we can't take advantage of it.

We may be 4-4 and we may be second in our division (a game behind the Colts) but we have the fifth-worst record in the conference.
Tennessee (2-6), Jacksonville (1-7), NY Jets (1-7) and Oakland (0-7) are the only sub-.500 teams in the AFC.
By contrast 9 teams in the NFC are sub-.500.
So, yes, we have Tennessee once and the Jaguars twice but among the rest of the opponents, Cleveland might be the only other opponent where we could be considered a favorite and that might be a stretch.

Or look at it this way, if I set the over/under on 6.5 based on your prediction, what would you bet?

The NYG also have a losing record. The combined record of our 2014 schedule is 55-65-1. But even with that, I have to admit you are right. The competence of Cleveland and Buffalo, combined with Pittsburgh's huge win yesterday tells me this schedule has turned out to be harder than I thought.

If the Texans could eliminate the bone crushingly stupid things they do sometimes there's not a team on the schedule that they can't or even shouldn't beat. They don't play either of the two teams that the Texans effectively can't beat, the Broncos or the Patriots. I haven't seen a single game that I thought the Texans had no chance to win and doubt that I will. Although you can go ahead and use ink when you write in the game in Indy as a loss.

The nice thing is we have remaining 5 home games and three away games.
Philly, Bengals and Ravens are good teams we play at NRG stadium .
Colts and Cleveland away.
If we play with few turnovers and few penalties, like yesterday, could be we maybe win atleast four or five more games. Probably that exceeds my expectations when the year started.
It is a tough choice of trying to win vs see your possible future QB?
And Foster is great again, keep him several more years at this pace.

Yep, forgot about the GMen. Looking at the schedule before the first whistle blew had me somewhat optimistic about a false showing, IE beating up on the scrap heap for a 8-8/9-7 record. Now that they're actually playing, its definitely turned in to a more competitive schedule than is typically placed on the last place team. The parity of the NFL is real, and certainly makes it more entertaining.

Anyone else notice the first play that Clowney was in for Lewan went right for his knees? Lewan knew exactly what he was going to do and didn't even think twice about ducking and diving for the knee. Clowney made a nice move to avoid getting taken out and Lewan later hurt his knee. Like they say, karma's a bitch.

just looking at schedule seems maybe to contradict that we have 3rd easiest schedule for remaining seven games.
sometimes win-loss or point differential can give misleading results. how did he decide we had easiest, based on last year?
we play 4 teams with a winning record and 3 with a loosing record
4 winning teams now are @ 11/16Cleveland, 11/23Cincinnatti, @12/14Colts, 12/21Ravens
3 teams with loosing records are @12/7Jaguars, 11/30Titans, and 12/28Jaguars.
So Mallet will face Cleveland, Cincinnatti, Titans , and Jaguars, two away games and two home games. A fair schedule.
Last three games are Colts, Ravens, and Jaguars, one away and two home, also a fair schedule.
