Gameday is tomorrow this week as the 2-10 Texans travel to Jacksonville to take on the 3-9 Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. The Texans are coming off a 34-31 home loss to the New England Patriots and the Jaguars are coming off a 32-28 road victory over the Cleveland Browns.

TV = NFLN, Thursday, 7:25 pm CST

Announcers (http://506sports.com/nfl.php?yr=2013&wk=13) = Brad Nessler and Mike Mayock

The line (http://www.madduxsports.com/nfl-odds.php) = Texans by 3

Texans with 10 consecutive losses while Jacksonville has won their last 2 and 3 of their last 4 and they get the game at home on a really short week
where the road team is at even more of a disadvantage and the Texans are still favored by a FG ? Must be that performace by our practice squad QB taking HOFer Brady all the way to the wire, huh ?

The line has nothing to do with predictions and everything to do with what Vegas needs to do to get relatively equal money bet on each team.

Gimme a break Barrett, just like every year I'm heading out to Vegas next month and will bet on the POs as usual. And the spreads do to a great extent reflect the prediction on the game, but of course they also handicap it to a degree to induce maximum revenues for the book. I know how the system works.
BTW, we are staying at Mandalay Bay, any pros or cons on that location ?

Pat Kirwan made an interesting point on NFL radio yesterday. This upcoming game will tell us a lot about Case. He is coming off a fairly decent performance against NE in which he had a decent running game and a defense that couldnt stop NE in the second half. Case will be seeing a team for the second time.

The Texans are 2-9-1 ATS (against the spread) this year. Since I'm a bit of a homer, I've been losing on the Texans all year at the not-real-money betting website I visit.

------------------------

I remember saying after the first five Texan losses that that was a long time to go without a W. I had no idea it would turn into 10 in a row.....

------------------------

There was some question before the New England game whether the Texans had quit as they had just been beaten by the Jags at home. After going toe-to-toe with the Patriots, apparently the betting confidence with the Texans is still good and despite what some say (Hi, Walter (http://walterfootball.com/nflpicks2013_14early.php)), I don't think they have (quit). This game is actually pretty important to a lot of people's future....

-----------------------

Still early but Walter (http://walterfootball.com/nflpicks2013_14early.php) shows 64% of the money coming in on the Texans. The line, to me, is encouraging money on Jax. The public sometimes outsmarts themselves... Sometimes the line is so weird, you wonder if the oddsmakers are messing with you. To what degree do you overthink it? But this one is easy for me - the homer in me is going with the Texans..

------------------------

The Jags are 4-8 ATS.

Glad we are getting the Philly game as they've got X-Texans DeMeco & Barwin which offers another option even if a vague alternative in cheering for a PO contender with the hapless Texans now entirely out of the post-season chase.

So you're saying there's a chance...

Despite being 2-10 with 10 consecutive losses, the Texans have yet to be eliminated from the AFC’s playoff chase. ...

The Texans’ ridiculous hope for the playoffs: to have at least seven AFC teams finish tied at 6-10 — themselves, plus the Steelers, Ravens, Dolphins, Browns, Jets, Chargers and the winner of a Week 15 game between the Bills and Jaguars. Oakland, Tennessee and the loser of that Buffalo-Jacksonville game could finish 6-10 or 5-11 without propping up another wild-card contender’s record.

Should that happen, the Texans’ could secure the AFC’s second wild-card spot via a tremendously convoluted set of tiebreakers.

To keep their dream alive for another week, Houston needs to beat Jacksonville on Thursday night, then have these results occur on Sunday: Minnesota over Baltimore, New England over Cleveland, Oakland over the Jets, the Giants over San Diego and Pittsburgh over Miami.

Ya, that's the only early game. I wasn't enthused till I saw the other options: Minn @ Balt or Atl @ GB (that one might be OK...).

The sad thing is I'm going to be pissed if they loose or if they win and blow the 1st overall pick in the draft. I'm truly torn.

KJ just had to get in on the pass interference he was feeling left out.

The Texans have played the Jags twice, now and haven't got the Jags to turn the ball over once. No takeaways. The Texans had 1 turnover in the 1st game and 2 tonight.

--------------------------------

Tonight, the Texans won the time of possession (35:22 to 24:38) and the Total Yards (406 to 281) but not the scoreboard. This has happened so much this year... :(

---------------------------------

7 losses in a row of less than 1 score.

---------------------------------

Texan had 14 penalties for 177 yards tonight.

---------------------------------

The Jags got a whopping 7 first downs from penalty. The Texans got one.

Starting with about 6 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Kubiak called 35 passes and 2 runs. While I guess it got us back in the game, the inevitable INT was only a matter of time.

I just don't get Kubiak. For a purported offensive mind, why does he think you have to completely abandon the run when down by 2 scores in the 3rd or 1 score in the 4th. (And, yes, I may have started Tate in fantasy last night.).

The ineptitude currently coming from this franchise - from the Owner, GM, HC, Staff, players, play on the field, game decisions, you name it - is just astonishing. It has become a failure at every level and every angle imaginable.

I think the most disappointing thing for me this year is no one is willing to take a stand or hold someone accountable. McNair continues to hide in his shell and allow Kubiak to coach... Kubiak continues to allow Marciano and other staff members to coach... Kubiak continues to make the same game mistakes over and over and over again... The coaching staff continues to allow awful (OL, OLBs, anyone on STs, JJoe, Schaub) and/or dumbass players (Swearinger) play... Dumbass players continue to make mistakes and some continue to talk and act like jerks despite the fact they suck...

It's truly stunning how everyone at the upper levels of this organization has just allowed this crap to continue. Fine... Fire a coach, bench or pull a player, lose games... Have some balls and DO SOMETHING to make a statement!

Schaub was looking really sharp last night until that pass that resulted in the pic by one of the no less than 4 Jags defenders who closely bracketing his target. Yup, deja vu all over again. How many times has that happened this season alone ? Rogers or Brady could maybe fit that ball in, but would they even attempt that pass ?

I hear ya, but what does it really accomplishment? I'd put 99% odds that the staff will be blown up. Whether that includes the GM or not is TBD, but I don't think he's as safe as some believe. Whether it happens now, or Black Monday, that's irrelvant to me.

If anything, keeping these yahoo's around helps secure a top 5 pick.......

But my main point is, regardless of the timing or if it changes anything this year, SOMEONE, please, just make a statement and show us that this is unacceptable and that there's a pulse and brain activity within the organization.

There's no point to firing people this late in the season. McNair is doing the right thing for now. Changes will come this winter when more coaches are available to hire.

14 penalties tells me the coaches have lost the players. Kubiak and probably Wade Phillips are no longer being listened to and that's a sign that everyone already knows the inevitable is coming.

It's all the more disappointing when you remember what we thought when the season started. I felt there would be some regression but nothing like this. I though 9-7, 10-6, win the division and then get bounced in the playoffs. Not this. I think that's why the fan base is so angry and impatient.

To try and make lemonade out of lemons, I don't think Kubiak ever was or ever is going to be more than a mediocre coach and what he accomplished the last 2 years is probably his ceiling. However, McNair would never fire him if he kept churning out 9-7 seasons. So, this year is hopefully the medicine we have to take to get a coach who can potentially take the team further. We'll see.

I disagree Bob. We outgained them and could have won in the end. I think we are just snake bitten.

I've got a post during the SF debacle where I said I was rooting against us and hoping we went 2-14 so even McNair couldn't keep Kubiak. Never thought it could actually happen but WE DID IT!

I doubt the Kubiak firing will change anything on the field, but it says enough is enough. Exactly what I was looking for. Next is benching DSwag's ass during a game when he's mouthing off and acting the fool on the field.
