Even though Weary and Salaam looked to be backups this year, the comments from Kubiak about them today leave me a bit uneasy. Apparently, Weary has not healed yet from his broken leg and it is starting to look to me like he may possibly be an IR candidate. Salaam's problem apparently just came up, but is more troubling to me than Weary's because I'm not sure we have any depth at LT. Kubiak announced today Salaam is having knee pain bad enough to keep him out of this week's game. Salaam sounds like a possible candidate for a scope and a few weeks recovery time. I sure hope not.
If Salaam is out for awhile, this just shows how wrong it would have been to go for a RB in the first round of the draft this year. We may not be thrilled at what we have at RB, but at least we have decent depth. One injury would not put us in the position we would be in if we lose Salaam and don't have Brown.

We have depth at left tackle.
Maybe not quality depth but we have warm bodies. If needed, Frye, Pitts or Winston could step in after Brown gets a shot.
................or we could resign Spencer. :)

Rashad Butler is said to be able to play either LT or RT, adding to his value by being a so called "swing-player" in the OLine.
I think I read that the Texans and NFL teams in general only suit 7 OLinemen on game day, but I dunno how many Olinemen actually make the regular season 53-man roster ?
weary's injury is concievable to me...but salaam's sounds like a veteran player cashing in his veteran chips to skip meaningless games and keep his body intact. i'd say there is a pretty good chance brown is playing for starter in pittsburgh these next few weeks.

Texans offensive tackle Ephraim Salaam underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair cartilage damage in his left knee and will be out from three to four
weeks.

I would like to see what Frye and Winston look like at LT. Realistically, it would probaly be Pitts at LT and Frye at LG in the regular season if Salaam and Brown were out.

G Chester Pitts
(on teammate T Ephraim Salaam) “He just got his knee scoped. I mean the guy is 430 years old, you know; it’s nothing to him. It’s another day at the office. He’ll be back in three weeks ready to go. He actually in Denver one time got his knee scoped the day after a game and played that next game. He heals really fast, so he’ll be fine. He’ll be ready to go when the season starts.”
Not every injury is the same. Even so being out there a week after a scope is pretty tough. I think that if we had to call on Salaam he would show up and block in a wheel chair if he thought he could do it well.
He played hurt towards the end of each of the last two years. I remember quotes from last year, where Salaam could barely gt off the field at the end of the later games because he was so hurt and beat down.
i guess not. sounds like he would play if we needed him too.
This will be the best Oline we have ever had. And I mean a real good one.

Weary to IR per the Chron. (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/5950315.html)
What is it with our Olinemen? They get hurt, it is career threatening? On the bad side it sux for Weary and the Oline, on the other it opens up a potential roster spot for another player.
