The last few days have been slow so I figured we needed a thread. So how about the Texans Bests.

Best Game
Best Play
Best Player
Best Rookie
etc...

and finally, Your all-time Texans team.

The last few days have been slow so I figured we needed a thread. So how about the Texans Bests.

Best Game-Easy...19-10 over the boys. 2nd place would actually be the OT loss to the pats in their last superbowl season
Best PlayAmazingly enough I would go with two David Carr Plays. The TD pass vs the Cowboys or the game winning QB sneak for TD.
Best PlayerAndre Johnson
Best RookieDomanick Davis
etc...

and finally, Your all-time Texans team(a little early, I know).

QB - Can we say schaub even though he only played half a season for us? It says something about how bad it was before him. Maybe I'll go with Drew Henson since he is the only QB we drafted to give us a positive return.

RB - Domanick Davis
FB - Moran Norris (when our offense didn't ask the FB to catch it he was tough)
WR - Andre Johnson, ??? (I might go single wing with the options we have here), or maybe an early Billy Miller
TE - Owen Daniels
LT - Chester Pitts
LG - Chester Pitts
C - Steve McKinney (early edition)
RG - Fred Weary
RT - Eric Winston

DE - Gary Walker, Mario Williams
DT - Robaire Smith, Seth Payne
LB - Demeco Ryans, Jamie Sharper, ???
CB - Dunta Robinson, Arron Glenn
SS - ???
FS - Will Demps or Marcus Coleman (the most mediocre among some all-time stiffs)

P - Matt Turk
RS - Andre Davis

and the easiest pick of them all
K - Kris Brown

And before you get too worked up remember this is a boredom induced post.

FB - Moran Norris (when our offense didn't ask the FB to catch it he was tough)

I was mystified when they let Norris go for Cook, but Leach has as much power as Norris and catches. I'd say he was best so far.

FS - Will Demps or Marcus Coleman (the most mediocre among some all-time stiffs)

If it isn't Demps, it is Marlon McCree. Coleman sucked at FS and was much better at CB.

Best Game-last year vs. denver.
Best Play-the play action from schaub to andre for 78 and 7. i had just the perfect view of that play and knew from schaub's turn it was a td about to happen
Best Player-duh, the only player to ever make a probowl before last year....jerome mathis
Best Rookie-demeco ryans. he won rookie of the year.

LT - Chester Pitts
LG - Chester Pitts

Plays 2 position simultaneously ? That's what I call a cap-friendly player,
not to mention his extraordinary ability to handle the whole left-side of the OLine by himself !

QB - How to measure? Sage has the best record, Schaub the best talent, and Carr the most cumulative stats. For an All-Time team, given Schaub and Sage have just a half season each or so on the field, David Carr is the pick almost by default, though that could change by as soon as midseason, I hope!

RB - With two (and almost three) 1,000-yd seasons, Domanick (Davis) Williams is the easy pick. Worth noting? Aside from Carr (who could run a bit with the ball if you remember), Darius Walker has the highest ypa of anyone with at least 20 carries (4.6). Hmmm...

FB - Moran Norris. Vonta Leach is talented, too. He just needs a better RB behind him.

WR - Andre Johnson of course. Jabar Gaffney is second in franchise yardage, but Corey Bradford is just 17 yards behind him and has the second-most receiving TDs (18), compared favorably with Johnson (25) and much higher than #3 on the list (Daniels, 8).

TE - Owen Daniels has amassed about the same stat-wise in two seasons that Billy Milled totaled in his first three seasons. Daniels has been the superior blocker too.

LT - Chester Pitts made a name for himself in week 1 of the 2003 season in holding off Jason Taylor. There is still legitimate belief that he may be the best LT on the roster even today (for a game today... hopefully Duane Brown will one day be the undisputed best). Since I don't want to double him up here as both the LT and LG, and also because his contributions might be overlooked, I'm going to say Ephraim Salaam is my pick here. Pitts only started two years at LT (02-03), and Salaam has about the same (30 starts), which includes the season in which the Texans set a franchise record low for sacks allowed (22 in 2007).

LG - Chester Pitts. Man can play an oboe, too.

C - Steve McKinney. Not a lot of other good options, though I kinda wish I could use Fred Weary here since he is in a dogfight for my pick at RG, but damn if no one ever gave him much of a chance at center.

RG - There was a point in time in which Zach Wiegert was considered the team's best offensive lineman. Weary has resurrected his career since Gary Kubiak arrived though, making this pick a dead heat.

RT - The options here after Eric Winston, who is only now tapping his potential, are slim. Forgetting his signing bonus for a moment, Todd Wade wasn't a complete disaster by any stretch, but Winston's 2007 season was the tops at the position to date.

DE - Mario Williams has the franchise career sacks record ALREADY. Gary Walker had a Pro Bowl season in 2002, the same year in which he gave Jerry Jones hell at the end of 19-10. Walker's legacy was the horrible extension he signed though two years later, almost enough for me to bump him off this list for that alone.

DT - Seth Payne was a rock for the early Texans. Also leads DTs in franchise sacks (9) and has one of the team's two recorded safeties. Amobi Okoye will assume the other spot by the end of this season, but until then, sigh, Robaire Smith edges out Travis Johnson.

LB - Jamie Sharper and DeMeco Ryans are the easy picks. Sharper is still the franchise leader in tackles, but he will likely give that up to Ryans by season's end. Sharper also had 11.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles (compared to 5.5 and 3, respectively, for Ryans). Kailee Wong was a solid tackler and pass rusher, too. If I pick a fourth LB (in a nod to the team's 3-4 beginnings), then it probably comes down to Jay Foreman and Morlon Greenwood. Foreman was a tackler, just not near the line of scrimmage. Greenwood is not spectacular (caused only 5 turnovers in three seasons), but he's my pick.

CB - Aaron Glenn and Dunta Robinson are easy picks here. The two are tied for the franchise lead in interceptions (11, with Marcus Coleman). Glenn was a Pro Bowl selection in 2002, but Dunta has been the better playmaker, with 4 sacks and 5 forced fumbles to go with his franchise lead in passes defensed.

FS/SS - Yuck. Can I pass? Ick. C.C. Brown plays the run well, but is a liability in pass coverage. Jason Simmons has been somewhat forgotten, but he was a hard hitter (3 forced fumbles), decent tackler, and did okay in coverage. Simmons' longevity with the team helps, too, when compared with others.

PK - Kris Brown had his best season as a Texans last year, connecting on 86% of his field goal attempts and converting each of his 40 extra point attempts. He's had a couple mediocre seasons (2002, 2004), but he's made more than a couple clutch game-winners over the years.

P - Matt Turk has a better leg but just one year of service, not a long enough resume for the All-Time Team. Chad Stanley was pretty weak there near the end, but he was capable.
