This is the place for all the game action conversation as the Texans travel to New Orleans in an effort to prove how different their 2011 season will be from the past.

Going with 2 RB's this week....hope they hold up.
Glad to see Vilma and Porter are out. Should be a great, explosive game.
Interesting they deactivated the 3rd QB, as well as Anderson.

From the Chronic:

Running back Arian Foster will not play against the Saints. He was made inactive. Ben Tate will start, and Steve Slaton will back him up.

Other inactives are cornerback Sherrick McManis, offensive tackle Andrew Gardner, quarterback T.J. Yates, receiver David Anderson, running back Derrick Ward and guard Thomas Austin.

Among the inactives for the Saints are three starters: receiver Marques Colston, cornerback Tracy Porter and middle linebacker Jonathan Vilma.

Sucks to lose, but I'm "fine" with losing to such a great team with an insane passing attack by only 7 points. Without Foster. WITH Kareem JAckson.

And we lose because we couldn't convert RZ opportunities into TDs. Tough, but last year we would have lost 49-13.

Saints are toughest matchup for Houston all year. And it's not a conference game.

Sucks that we got jobbed by the refs too. That ATROCIOUS personal foul call on Manning, the horrible O-PI call on Dreesen, and what was a non-call PI on a pass to Andre in the red zone that would have been a TD.

I cannot possibly convey how much this attitude infuriates and disgusts me. I don't care that a random fan such as you makes such a pathetic display; what bothers me is that this attitude is plainly visible within the organization, most evidently from its owner.

A competently run team would have won this game by three touchdowns.

Your right Chuck. The Texans brass has done absolutely nothing to try to right the ship. They could have brought in a top flight DC this season, maybe a top 5 corner and a legit S to help our struggling D. Hell, I wish they would have used some of our top draft picks to help fortify our D. Man, that would have been nice. I'm sure ole Bob is perfectly happy saving all that money by not doing all that, so he can still rake in the profits.

Good call Chuck.

barrett
09-25-2011, 04:47 PM
I agree with Chuck. There was nothing 'good' about this loss. A decent team is supposed to show up and do a few things right. A good team needs to do enough things right to win. We were not a good team today.

We got every break we needed. We opened up an early lead. And then we gave it away late.

We were up 9 and receiving a punt late in the game when we did this;

Blocked in the back to ruin our field position.
Tate drops an easy pass that would have gotten us out of the bad field position.
Schaub throws an interception.

And the rest is history. We may have some fans on here who hate it when we run the ball with a lead because it is not exciting or fantasy-friendly, but before the game I bet Kubiak would have paid any amount for the opportunity to have the ball up 9 late with a chance to put the game away with our running game (which averaged 4.4 yards per carry). But Kubs was feeling the pressure the Saints offense puts on you, so we come out throwing. Totally off script for our team and not how we put teams away.

That whole series makes me seriously doubt we are anything different than the team of the last few years that finds a way to lose. Now that team may be good enough to win 10 game and make the playoffs this year, but that was not a good football team today. It was a decent team and a respectable performance, and that anyone can be satisfied with that is sad.

I commend barrett's post highly. One other thing I'll add is that as good as Tate is and will be there is no comparison between Tate and Foster catching the ball out of the backfield.

Hmmmmmmm....uhhh....and you said my point reflected a pathetic attitude. Pretty sure I mentioned not having Foster being a killer dynamic missing to our offense, especially our red zone offense.

Not to mention Slaton backing up Tate today. Both were worthless. As was the OL. How can we do play action, especially in the red zone, when there are no rushers to respect?

I don't think the pathetic part was thinking Foster would help. After watching us let the game dribble down our leg in the 4th quarter today, my biggest hope is that if Foster is %100 we put that game away by stuffing it down the saints throat like we should have. Foster is a game changer. And Tate is solid. And like you noticed, the bigger problem may be that Slaton is not. Especially when we try to make Steve Slaton be Ron Dayne and run inside. He cannot do it. When he goes in the game the playbook needs to change unfortunately. But we asked him to be a square peg in a round hole.

The pathetic part had nothing to do with observing we miss Foster. It is about anyone who loses and says "that's ok, those guys are really good."

But Matrix didn't say that. He said he was "fine" with it (just like that - in quotations). He went on to say possibly last year we get blown out. So IMO, his point was the team is close but they are not there, yet.

Imagine a scale - on end of the scale you have the fans who think the Texans can do no right. On the other end of the scale you have the fans who think the Texans can do no wrong. In reality, it's not that binary - most fans make up the huge middle ground.....

--------------

The way I see it:

1. You can't give up 40 pts and expect to win.

2. The defense in the 4th quarter was gassed, the pass rush was non-existant. Brees had all day.

3. Schaub has had better days in the redzone (understatement alert) and very good between the 20's.

4. It doesn't matter what I or anyone thinks. The Texans have to get back to work, fix their issues and go after Pittsburgh in a week....

Word it however you want. Being fine with losing when your team gives it away is not 'fine'.

Man o man....rewatched some of the 2nd half, KJ had a really rough go of it. Lack of pressure was critical there, but geez, the amount of cushion this kid gives is maddening. I'm assuming he is making up for his lack of speed, but geez.

Speaking of pressure, aside for the Ninja, and a Watt moment, we let Brees get entirely too comfy back there. He's not the easiest sack in the world, but didn't see him having to move around much.

Brandon Harris was active today, but I don't recall seeing him on D. Wonder if he gets a look next week?

So you disagree with his attitude? What, in your opinion would be the appropriate fan attitude in this situation? Anger? Why get angry over something you have no control over?

Why get happy over something you have no control over? I would think the answer in both cases is because being a fan means it matters to you.

A good idea, but I'm not sure I'm ready for anger yet. I am more disappointed by this one. Now if we give it away against Pittsburgh next week, you just give me a time and place and me and my couch are there.

I hear ya. I was actually just reading something about WV, and to be honest, I never realized some folks took things that far....

Back at the game, I fully understand the disappointment, and the frustration, but the bigger tell for me will be whether or not we bounce back and play well again this week. We have seen just about all 3 levels of O's this year, IND - terrible, MIA - Average, NO - Elite. Not sure we have seen anything above average on the D level, so time will tell. In all honesty, I'm not so sure we have an elite D on our schedule this year....

I still believe we will be fine, but will be more of a believer if we come out and whoop the old ass Steelers.

They need to get back to that 1-0 stuff, starting tomorrow.

I agree. But I think the difference is one fan's viewpoint is no better/more appropriate than the other. Matrix said nothing about throwing a parade (as the "hyperbolers" like to put it.)

I'm disappointed, mildly disgusted they couldn't get it done but beneath all that, I think this is their best team ever. They are this close >< but there are things to fix, still....

You're either unbelievably obtuse or deliberately disingenuous. (I'm guessing the former.)

I said that I don't care what Matrix thinks but the attitude he presents (he's "fine" with the loss because the team would have been beaten worse last year) is utterly despicable to me. I underscore this not because I care that Matrix thinks so but because it is plain to me that the organization operates on the same principle. You had the owner dancing around like a buttnut at a Judy Garland convention last year because after watching his team get its ass kicked in front of the world on Monday night his peers said, Why, Bob, your team does not suck nearly as much as it did in past years! And Bob said, OUTSTANDING!

And it's all the more painful to me because much to my surprise I realize that I am forced to admit that somehow or another these bozos have assembled a f*^%ing talented team. The Texans have more talent on their roster than the Saints do. It is not even particularly close. Yet some poor execution by Schaub and some incredibly puzzling sequences by our incredibly puzzling head coach turn what should have been a Texans rout into yet another heartbreaking loss. And some of you clowns think that's just skippy because last year the team wouldn't have kept the game as close. I'm sorry, I'm just not on board with that.

Thanks, lol.

As we speak, the Steelers are an awful, awful team for failing to put away a team that they should. Earlier, the Chargers are an awful, awful team for letting arguably the worst team in football hang around. Also earlier, the Lions are overrated and garbage for being forced to come back against the Vikings to barely win in overtime.

And we lost to....the SAINTS. By SEVEN. ON THE ROAD. WITHOUT FOSTER.

The lesson to be learned is that, in the NFL...shit happens.

So, because you can't or don't want to voice your complaints to the Texan organization, you figured you could just bash on ol' Matrix cause he's got that same darn attitude as they do, huh?

Right, I'm sure that is exactly how it went down. ;)

That's your opinion and if you want to believe that, you go right ahead. It's debatable at best - I'd trade Schaub for Brees in a heartbeat.

If you're unhappy with the team, then write the Texan organization a letter and voice your displeasure. We're all fans here. People deal with it in different ways. You complain too much, chuck. You take bitching to the next level. It's just a game - your going to have heart attack and die if you keep it up... jeez....

Dome Dogs were better than the current hot dogs served at Reliant Stadium, though the chop baker is an excellent addition.
