From NFL.com (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81df3c80/article/texans-must-solve-defensive-dilemma-to-take-next-step?module=HP_spotlight):

2. Can Phillips rescue defense?

The Texans' first significant move of the offseason was to remedy that suspect defense. The hiring of Wade Phillips means one thing for sure, another thing likely to come, and one big fat maybe:

» For Certain: Texans will move to a 3-4.

» Likely: A better pass rush.

» Big hope: Compile a playoff-caliber defense.

Phillips has the résumé as a defensive coordinator in the NFL, there's no question about that. But, he spearheaded a Cowboys defense that got roasted for 29 points per game before he was fired.

Before you freak out Texans fandom, Phillips had a lot on his plate as head coach and defensive coordinator. The Texans should be better, unless the game has truly passed Phillips by. But considering the Cowboys gave up the second-fewest points in the league under Phillips in 2009, that's doubtful.

More at the link... Also, interesting video of Arian Foster at Pro Bowl practice...

Enjoyed the Arian Foster video for sure.

Next year Texans likely have another tough schedule playing AFC North and NFC South, so some of those teams have very good 3-4 defenses. And some of those teams have very good offenses as well.

And we don't know what FA and draft or even season will look like yet, or who might get hurt or fined either. I would be okay with all defense in draft, but if some good Olinemen available, ok with that.

But, all they need to do is play smarter , eleminate the bad dumb plays, penalties and dumb calls, better discipline, they can be there. So, hopeful for now. And hope there is no lockout either.

One thing I know - - - we have to quit saying we are going to "build through the draft", and do a better job of evaluating FA's, and our own personnel, and filling holes in the organization accordingly. That goes for the G.M. right on down. Whether we have done that remains to be seen. I really think McNair should hire someone to be the chief executive, i.e. President, and let him run the whole shebang.
