On the one hand OD wants to get paid for his past performances with the Texans, but he is still rehabbing the knee and it is still up in the air whether he will be fully recuperated before the start of TC July 31st.

From the clubs standpoint they don't want to go out on a limb by giving him a big contract. Too many times in the past the Texans have given the money to rehabbers and some others that blewup in their face. So they are understandably a little gunshy with OD's situation.

You have to kind of see OD's side of it because he has given it his all, and has played hurt. He probably won't (or can't) miss any of mini-camp or TC because he is still a restricted free agent (at least for one more year). Eventually he will have to sign for what he can get for at least that one extra year, and in the meantime hope the knee gets well enough to make a difference the following year. You might say both he and the club will be holding their breath waiting to see if the knee holds up and he has a year anywhere near what he has done in the past.

I think there's probably two paths here..

1. He "shares" a little more playing time this year while fully recovering, and has a productive OD type year.

2. He plays a little, then gets injured again.

If the latter happens, I think his future with the Texans is on very thin ice. Dreesen did a good job last year once Schaub started finding him but OD is proven and I'll be rooting for him to make it back all the way. As far as the future contract/money situation, I think it all depends on what happens this year...

Don't mean to be a hard-azz here, but they've been paying him good money for his efforts all along. And he did have the chance last year to get a favorable long-term deal, but he held out for more, then got injured during the '09 season. So who's fault is it now that OD feels like he's standing around feeling
empty-handed ?

Yeah, and I am sure OD's agent and the NFLPA had something to do with the holdout, but still OD has been a good guy who has played his heart out for this team. I hope the scenario where he gets hurt again doesn't happen, then he can finally get the contract he deserves.

I have to go with nunu on this one. They offered him a long term contract last season but instead he wanted to take his chances and hold out for a better contract offer, but instead it backfired. He has no one to blame but himself in my opinion. I bet he's majorly regretting that right now...

Daniels has signed his tender (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/06/11/owen-daniels-signs-his-tender/) after reportedly being told by the Texans that they want to see him back on the field before they give him a big contract.

Like I said, OD is one of the good guys, he signed his tender offer, although his heart told him he was worth more. I hope he plays well this year and next year gets the contract he feels he really deserves.

If OD performs well there is nothing to preclude a new contract during the season although that's not the Texans MO.

I posted just to post. It's slow season...

I think there is quite a large amount of offseason blues. World Cup helps some...not much. The Astros are just hard to watch. There isn't a particular rookie that is interesting to watch develop while they lose games...maybe Castro will be a nice addition.
