Leinart Ready to Party in Houston

Former Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart has agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Texans. Hide your college coeds, please.
Leinart's reputation, both on and off the field, precedes him, but the reality is that the checkdown champ of the West might be in a pretty good situation here. A fresh start, a new offense, and a player-friendly former backup QB as coach... okay, so maybe that same formula hasn't yet worked for current number two Dan Orlovsky, but Leinart certainly has a better draft pedigree as a former first round pick.
Leinart's anticipated signing is just the latest transaction from Reliant Park on a busy Labor Day weekend following Thursday's non-descript loss to the Bucs 24-17. Most notably, the team decided to place kicker Kris Brown on injured reserve, choosing another former Cardinal, Neil Rackers, to be their placekicker.
The team also said goodbye to LB Danny Clark, RB Jeremiah Johnson, CB Jacques Reeves, and others. They also sent WR Andre Davis to the injured reserve as well. The moves allowed them to add RB Derrick Ward, LB David Nixon, and CB Jamar Wall.
The first seven players were named to the practice squad over the weekend, and the list included a former Longhorn running back, Chris Ogbanbonnaya. These rest of those renting, not buying, include: C Brett Helms, T Cole Pemberton, DT Malcolm Sheppard, LB Isiah Greenhouse, S Torri Williams, and WR Bobby Williams. The eighth and final spot remains open.
All this is news is simply clippings for the bottom of the birdcage in advance of the biggie: the season opener this Sunday against the Colts. The Texans are home underdogs, but not by much, less than a field goal. Party at Matt's if the Texans find a way to win this one.
